About the Book
Occult, murder, intrigue, and serial killings are all words that Rion Connors, an FBI agent specializing in ritualistic, occult serial killings, understands. He, along with his best friend and partner, Tyger Mikula, have proven themselves very effective in solving murders. Rion's latest challenge reveals itself after a recent victim dies from supernatural powers. The medical examiner, who has studied mystical forces for years, suspects a spiritual movement has begun in a small, coastal town - Rae, Georgia that is being led by one of the local spiritual club leaders. This club's leader and members, he believes, are tapping into a mysterious force called, "The Okon", and using its power to kill people. After arriving in Rae, Rion encounters several colorful and suspicious local characters. These include: Dayen McBride, the leader of one of the popular clubs, Denver Bassett, a former boyfriend of Dayen's, Boe Rudy, the outcast, Julie Cody, Boe's closest and only friend, among others. Boe and Rion, who are both haunted by their childhoods, are brought together by a mysterious connection. Once believing he was invincible because of his own personal spiritual gift, Rion learns he has become the Okon leader's next target. Rion may, for the first time in his life, find himself totally unprepared to fight an extremely powerful, supernatural force. By the end of the case, Rion and Boe will learn that the greatest battles are indeed fought in the mind and that the greatest power ever given mankind is the power of choice...
About the Author: Holli describes herself as being an artist and a female "Dawson Leery". She loves the movies and desires to be a part of that world. In fact, she hopes her book will become a movie. She says, "I've never enjoyed reading any author, like Steinbeck, who 'is too descriptive'. That's why you'll find very few adjectives in my book. It went from being a book, to a screenplay, back to a book." Holli actually wrote her story for anyone who loves to watch movies. She remarks, "I wrote it just like a movie I would want to see." She further states, "It is for anyone who stands in awe of 'lights, camera, action'! You'll find the art of cinema magic throughout my entire story. Just look for it." Holli has tried to incorporate several "movie philosophies" in her writing. She even describes her book as being a mixture of "Fight Club" and "Carrie". To further emphasize her passion for the theater and arts, Holli uses movies as "references" to prove her point on many issues, not only in her book, but in her life as well. Because of this, she is often told that she "lives in her own unreal world". Holli knows she will be compared to Boe, a main character in her story. She doesn't mind. "You become who you are because of life. Sadly, my life just happens to have had hardships that are very similar to Boe's. And, although my book is a work of fiction, there is definitely a lot of 'me' in it, especially, in the protagonist, Boe. But, I'm also in Rion and Julie." Holli wants to prepare her readers for several twists and a surprise ending. She concludes with, "All I ask is that you don't underestimate it. If you read the first and last pages or even if you scan it, you'll miss many of the important points. I didn't put anything in my story that wasn't conducive to the overall plot. And, although, it is a love story, it is also an amazing mental journey."
