About the Book

Business is simple. People make it complicated. If you are a company director, owner, manager or employee you need to read this book. The deliberately simple ideas in the Sleeping Tiger revolution help you cut through the BS and figure out -the big picture; the simple principles and activities everyone needs to know that drive commercial success. Save yourself the MBA, its all here. -how to find personal habits that work for you, and enable you to get more of the right stuff done, easily -how to build enduring and deep relationships with the people you work with -the ultimate performance leverage point; finding your true grounding and operating as your best self Dave's simple, funny and engaging style, draws heavily from his personal experiences of working in many large corporates and mentoring small businesses. Sleeping Tiger Revolution is a book of two halves. The first half provides the simplest explanation of how a business works that you will ever read. Breaking a company down into seven simple sets of activities. Once you know how all these pieces fit together you will have a new appreciation for the challenges companies, and functions within them, face. The second section looks at you within the context of the company. Sleeping Tiger revolution abandons the traditional ideas about personal development and instead points you to a far more powerful and simple idea; how to operate from a strong grounding of who you are. You do not need to change, acquire new behaviours and skills. You need to step out of the costume you are wearing and present yourself authentically. The book is not full of tips and strategies. It is about principles. When you get these principles your own personal best practice will emerge and things become effortless. Everyone involved in business needs to read this book whether you are the CEO, the business owner, a manager or an employee. It will give you a new perspective of the commercial world, insights that will transform your life and a few giggles.
About the Author: I left school at sixteen and my first job was a Clerical Assistant in the Civil Service. Twenty- five years later I found myself as Director of Financial Operations in a major telecommunications company. On route I worked for seven FTSE100 companies, in the Retail, Telecoms, Consumer Products and Energy sectors, a telecoms start up and a global consultancy practice. Most of my career was spent in Corporate Audit teams, a function historically regarded as a backwater for people who couldn't cut it as real accountants. I spent years in this 'backwater' learning about every aspect of business, debating, facilitating and arguing with the keenest brains in their fields. My conclusion after all this time was that I must be thick. There was clearly something I didn't understand about business. It felt too simple. too logical. Commercial awareness was apparently my 'missing link'. It didn't matter what company or sector I went to work for; the pattern was the same. Simple businesses made complicated by politics, power trips and a complete lack of empathy for each other's challenges. The breadth and depth of my knowledge did not really become apparent to me until I went to coach small companies. My focus on £1m + turnover companies meant I had an endless stream of experience, stories and tools to help them with the challenges of building profit, teams and systems. Yet they still faced the same challenges I had seen in bigger companies. Trying to get their own team members half as excited and driven as them was exhausting, inter departmental conflict and resistance to change were all present just like a big 'grown up' company. On 'good' days my clients were full of energy and optimism for their business and on other days everything was "turning to rat shit". It looked like this was driven by events in the business. Yet even on weeks when results were good I could turn up to find the owner looking like someone had kicked their pet donkey over. I began studying mindset and invested thousands of pounds, and hours of time, working with mentors to understand the workings of people's minds. My own mind provided the perfect test case. As my understanding deepened I began to see answers, both in my life and in the lives of my clients. In fact the solutions were simpler than I could imagine. I wrote the Sleeping Tiger Revolution to encapsulate what I had learned and to finally bust the myth that business is complicated.
