About the Book

If we want to know the Bible, we must know the book of Genesis, for as the first book of the Bible, it lays the base for what will follow in all the rest. It begins with the creation itself, and then shows us man's fall, God's promised redemption, His calling, and His dealing with those who would answer His call to become His chosen people.

In A Sketch of Genesis, Titus Chu deals with these crucial matters, and others as well, from the standpoint of our Christian experience of the growth in life. Of course, in the New Testament, the Apostle Paul himself used the record of creation in Genesis 1 to illustrate our Christian experience. In Second Corinthians 4:6 he writes:

For God, who said, "Light shall shine out of darkness," is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

In his own comments on Genesis 1, Titus writes:

We should cultivate a strong desire to grow in the Lord. For this, we must be open for the sun to shine on us, the moon to govern us, and the stars to fellowship with us. We want to grow until we are above everything and even death cannot hold us. We want to grow until we all, as the church, conquer Satan and rule over the earth.

He goes on to cover the creation; man's fall; how God dealt with the fall; the two different ways of serving as seen in Cain and Able; the two different lines of mankind; and God's dealing with Abraham, Issac, and Jacob. May the Lord bless this book to help His children gain the profit that we should from the book of Genesis, and to lead us all into a deeper understanding of the process of our growth in life.

A Sketch of Genesis is based on spoken messages given in Chinese in 1973 to a group of young adults participating in a one-year Christian training in Taiwan. It is translated and reedited from the original Chinese edition of this book.
