Wenn man "Lebensmittelskandal in Deutschland" in die Suchmaschine Google eingibt, werden eine halbe Million Einträge in weniger als einer Sekunde aufgezeigt. Diese Einträge reichen von Nachrichtenmeldungen zu aktuellen Skandalen im Lebensmittelbereich bis zu Zeitskalen, die die Fülle an Lebensmittelskandalen in den letzten Jahrzehnten aufdecken. Hierbei sind es überwiegend Skandale mit verunreinigtem oder abgelaufenem Fleisch, das zum Verzehr verkauft wurde oder mit Pestiziden bzw. Dioxin verunreinigte Eier, die immer wieder in den Medien auftauchen und für neue Schlagzeilen sorgen. Doch wie kommt es, dass diese Fülle an Skandalen erst in den letzten 20 Jahren auftaucht? In dieser Hausarbeit soll anhand des Beispiels des EHEC-Skandals aus dem Jahr 201 geklärt werden, was genau einen Skandal in den Medien ausmacht und wie dieser EHEC-Skandal verstanden werden kann. Dabei wird zunächst auf theoretische Grundlagen eingegangen: Was ist ein Skandal? Wie entsteht ein Skandal im Allgemeinen und wie kann der Skandalablauf bestimmt werden? Danach wird darauf eingegangen, welche Personen und welche Kommunikationsmittel im Skandal gewählt werden um letztlich auf die Wirkungen und die Funktionen eines Skandals zu kommen. In einem weiteren Schritt wird genauer auf den EHEC-Skandal eingegangen: Was genau ist EHEC eigentlich? Wie war der Ablauf der Epidemie 2011 und was ist an EHEC skandalös? Es soll die Frage geklärt werden, was genau den Skandal ausgelöst hat und welche Personen, Organisationen oder Institutionen aus diesem Skandal einen Nutzen ziehen konnten, um Profit zu machen.
