About the Book

Jim and Laura Verraten are a young married couple living on the Southside Flats of Pittsburgh. Jim is a cyber security expert who knows how to keep hackers out and let himself in. Laura works for a travel magazine writing articles of interest on various localities she visits. Often the two are together in their professional travels around America. They have a hobby of trying to visit brewpubs in any town that they happen to be in and always enjoy a good brew or two. It just seems that whenever they do, they get more than they bargain for, usually a corpse or two. The game is afoot! No. 1 A Poisonous Pilsner Jim and Laura Verraten are off from their home in the South Side Flats of Pittsburgh, Pa to State College, Pa, known as Happy Valley, and home to Penn State University. It is a fall getaway for the couple and a great place for seeing the turning colors of the forest. Always on the lookout for a good brewpub they visit the Rothrock Brewpub that specializes in Pilsners of all types. Laura becomes involved with a group of art students when there is a death at the pub. Is it of natural causes or is it murder? No. 2 A Singel, Dubbel, Tripel and Quadrupel BloodbathJim Verraten is at a cyber security conference in Alexandria, Va and his wife Laura has just joined him planning on doing some touring together at the end of the conference. The evening of Laura's arrival they are going with friends to the Belgae Brewpub located in an old church and specializing in abbey style ales. While in town they stumble onto a series of strange unsolved murders that have the police puzzled. More than that, the murders seem to be ongoing. Is there a serial killer at loose or is it simply coincidence like unrelated stars making a constellation? No. 3 A Wee Too Heavy Scotch AleJim and Laura Verraten are looking forward to attending the Scottish Games in Ligonier, Pa. After check-in at the B&B, they set their sights on the Maple Taps Brewpub for dinner where it seems some of the Scot participants have gathered. Everyone is enjoying the weekend of games and festivities when a most unfortunate incident occurs and Jim and Laura get drawn in deeper and deeper.No. 4 A Case of Carolina Gold AleJim and Laura Verraten have work to do in Charleston, South Carolina where many brewpubs abound. The one they stumbled upon was the Gullah Girl Brewpub that had a beer made from Carolina Gold rice. Laura has some time to spend and gets to know the owner, Anyika and her cook Kissy. So begins a deep dive into Geechee culture that finds all is not as it seems when murder is concerned.No. 5 The Three Sisters Saison SlayingJim and Laura Verraten are in mid-Ohio sightseeing Native American mounds while on a summer vacation. While paddling down a creek they happen upon a native American Pow Wow being held at a campground. Later, the Three Sisters Brewpub is recommended to them where a chance meeting with a turtle introduces them to a real life Tecumseh. Can they find a killer in time? No. 6 A Lite to RememberJim and Laura Verraten are volunteers at a charity event with a Titanic theme being held in Pittsburgh, Pa. With everyone dressed in period costume, Jim is serving beer provided by the Cold Draw Brewpub down in 3rd class while Laura is a food server up in 1st Class where all is not well. Not well indeed. In fact, a body is discovered. Will the killer get away?Bonus short story: Waiting for Weizenbock
