Inhaltsangabe: Einleitung: Eine Diplomarbeit über die gesellschaftliche Situation Blinder zu schreiben, bedeutet, sich auf ein bislang doch sehr vernachlässigtes und sozialwissenschaftlich lückenhaft Erforschtes Gebiet zu begeben. Ein Großteil der verfügbaren Literatur aus dem Bereich der Blindenpädagogik befasst sich primär mit Kindern und Jugendlichen und hier wiederum vor allem mit deren Erziehung und Unterrichtung. Sicherlich ist diese Altersgruppe nicht zu vernachlässigen, jedoch werden dadurch Problematiken Blinder in anderen Lebensphasen vernachlässigt. Was geschieht mit ihnen nach der Schulentlassung? Ist ihre Rehabilitation und ihre Integration mit der Entlassung oder dem Eintritt ins Berufsleben beendet? Analysen über die soziale Lage Sehgeschädigter fehlen weitgehend. Überwiegend wird von „dem Blinden" gesprochen. Selten findet man von Betroffenen selbst geschriebene Literatur. Wenn, so findet man zumeist sehr subjektive Schilderungen. Oftmals können selbst andere Sehgeschädigte bestimmte Aussagen nicht nachvollziehen. Auch in meiner Arbeit sind die getroffenen Aussagen selbstverständlich nicht objektiv. Letztlich kann ich nur Ausschnitte aus alltäglichen Situationen, die ich selbst oder mir bekannte Personen erlebt haben, als Beispiel anführen. Manchmal kann man über einige teilweise absurde und dennoch realistische Vorkommnisse in unserer Gesellschaft sogar schmunzeln. Dies halte ich sogar für äußerst sinnvoll, denn Humor sollte stets ein wichtiger Bestandteil unseres Lebens sein! Im Mittelpunkt dieser Arbeit steht die Frage nach dem Bild „des Blinden" in der Gesellschaft. Wie werden wir gemeinhin gesehen und „behandelt"? Was ist bei uns anders als bei Sehenden? Werden wir oftmals nicht erst durch die Behandlung Anderer zu „Behinderten" gemacht? Was können Blinde überhaupt „leisten" (inwieweit werden wir eingeschränkt)? Wie wird die Arbeit Sehgeschädigter bewertet und inwieweit sind oder werden wir in der Ausübung unserer Arbeit gehindert? Wie gehen
