London schoolteacher Cicely Denfeld is used to living a normal, well-adjusted life. When she finds herself haunted by disturbing and unusual dreams, however, she discerns that they are something more than run-of-the-mill nightmares-in fact, they seem to be foretelling a secret reality, one with the potential to affect the entire world.
In her dreams, Cicely experiences the lives of a man named Charles Ryder and his partner Vivian Venables, individuals she has never before met. The partners are investigating a mysterious document taken from a government contractor in the United States, which has the potential to uncover a web of tightly-held secrets, carefully hidden from the public eye.
Not everyone wants these secrets to be revealed, however, and Charles and Vivian must struggle against implacable forces-those who will stop at nothing to keep them from uncovering the truth.
Meanwhile, Cicely is working with a psychiatrist to understand the dreams that have taken over her waking and sleeping thoughts.
Will she figure out how she is so deeply connected to the individuals whose lives she is experiencing in her slumber? And can Charles and Vivian expose a conspiracy of worldwide intrigue before it's too late?
