About the Book
Oleg Krishtal is a world-famous neuroscientist, one of the very few our contemporaries included in the list of top scientists and scholars of modern times.
In addition to his internationally known research papers, he wrote two fiction books, both published in the leading Russian literary magazines:
1) The novel "Homunculus" (awarded with the gold medal "For the best novel of the year 1995"). In 2000, the novel was published in France under the title "Moi et Mon Double".
2) The novel-essay "To the Singing of Birds", which is a breath-taking combination of postmodern irony, confessional insights, humor, anguish, joyous and sad recollections, and love of life the sense of which yet to be found.
Its English translation is presented here.
The book did arrive and I am reading it with great pleasure. You are a 'thinking man' of which there are very few! Some parts are a bit Kafkaesque and I mean this as a great compliment as Kafka for me is the greatest literary genius of the 20th century. Some chapters are simply brilliant, for example "I know where the devil is hiding". I am continuing the reading (slowly, in order not to miss anything).
'Singing of Birds' is a wonderful gift. So many original perspectives, very entertaining too, but with such deep thoughts and much mystery. I'll return to many of these from time to time, to refresh my thinking and try to penetrate deeper into something that cannot easily be grasped, but which you nevertheless magically have opened an intriguing path to.

" TO THE SINGING of BIRDS " is OUT OF TIME!
Oleg Krishtal is a world-famous neurophysiologist, one of the few who has gained the reputation as one of the all-time greats in his own lifetime.
His collection of novel-essays "To the Singing of Birds" illustrates the imperfections, shortcomings, twists and turns of the human mind described with a combination of postmodern irony, anecdotes, humour, sadness, and his view of the human individual's thirst for life, the real meaning of which has yet to be found.
Life is a way of finding oneself.
Yet a very few have been able to tap into the power of the unconscious mind - which we all have - and fly to unimaginable heights.
A Mozart. An Einstein. The people we refer to as 'a genius'.
This ability the author refers to as 'talking in a Metalanguage' It is an art given to very few.
'Singing of Birds' is a unique take on the phenomenon of genius.
Prepare for a journey of revelations.

METALANGUAGE
Mozart spoke in music. Michelangelo spoke with his brushes or his sculptor's fingers. They conversed in the language of Art. The language of the soul. The METALANGUAGE.
Since humanity first appeared on this earth, it has striven to explore and define the unconscious mind - the hidden universe which is granted to all of us, yet which we cannot easily see or touch.
What is it that is hidden 'on the other side of the wall?'
Is it possible for us to acquire the wings that will enable us to fly like birds to this hidden place?
In this book, each essay by Oleg Krishtal is like a flash of light that, step by step, illuminates the path to your inner self.
And perhaps you will be able to look 'on the other side of the wall' like the author.
Flying lessons for the mind.
