About the Book

Thanks to our award-winning "action storyteller," J'miah Nabawi, and his "partner-in-rhyme" collaborator, Chunzi Zhang, founder of Chunzi Zhang Books, we are very pleased (and proud) to present to our Chinese language and reading communities J'miah Nabawi's newest addition of Why Spiders Hide in Corners (Anansi Makes It So!) in Chinese. With the timeless Akan folk-hero/trickster character, Kwaku Ananse (Anansi the Spider), J'miah Nabawi's engaging, upbeat style of storytelling is a vocal ensemble of drum beats, song, and engaging dialog. The front of the book is written in (Simplified) Mandarin Chinese and is immediately followed in English and concludes the book. WorldBeat Books Summary: Rabbit decides to visit his friend, Anansi (also spelled Ananse), the Spider-Man, whom he hasn't seen in quite some time. Wanting to celebrate their friendship, Rabbit invites Anansi to join him in making a drum. From his cozy hammock, Anansi refuses with excuses of being too sick to get involved with drum-making. Alone, Rabbit works hard at making his "friendship" drum. While Rabbit is resting from the day's hard work at drum-making, he soon finds Anansi playing his drum, the very same drum he was supposedly "too sick" to help make. Anansi ends up in an embarrassing situation, one that we all may come face to face with from time to time.
About the Author: A native of Philadelphia, PA, J'miah Nabawi's storytelling career began in 1986 when he met Linda Goss, the Official Storyteller of Philadelphia, PA. J'miah's professional work with children and youth in under-served rural, urban and immigrant communities has not gone unnoticed. He has received citations, awards and proclamations from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, Harrisburg, PA; Blue Mountain Schools District, Orwigsburg, PA; Miami Dade City Council, Miami, FL; Boston's Mayor, Thomas Menino; and spotlights in local media, print, radio and television. Awarded by the National Storytelling Network (NSN) in Jonesborough, TN, J'miah is also an esteemed recipient of the ORACLE Award for Outstanding Service and Leadership in the Southeast for service to his community through storytelling. The Elijah Agency "Mr. Nabawi is one of Savannah's most visible and favored storytellers. He has been the community's choice for various festivities, with no barriers on race, ethnicity, or age. Whether it is through the Live Oak Public Libraries, The Telfair Museum, local churches, schools, universities, the leadership and service that he continues to provide through his profession is legendary here amongst Savannahians." Dr. Otis S. Johnson, Former Mayor of Savannah, GA
