About the Book

Mighty warrior? Ordinary would be more like it. That's how he lived. That's how he retired and that's how planned to die. Ordinary. It rubbed him the wrong way if he thought about it, but for the most part, he'd surrendered to it. His youthful dreams were just that-dreams. He was never meant to do anything great. When he tried all it did was put him in a spiritual battle that cost him his wife and precious time with his kids. He'd not make that mistake again. No, he was ordinary-and that's how he'd stay. Except for one thing... He knew The Voice that woke him in the night or arrested him by day was God. But doesn't that happen to everyone? Just like back in the Garden of Eden, when God walked with Adam and Eve, in the cool of the day just to chat. God doesn't change. He still likes to do that today. Everybody knows that-it's just normal, right? Burt's ordinary life was only a breath away from extraordinary...yours is too.
About the Author: Doug Spurling's history includes things like: Professional Rodeo. Youth Pastor. Church Founder. Columnist. Catastrophe Adjuster. Business Owner. Author. He'd tell you he's been a Professional mistake-maker. A pro getter-upper-off-the-dirt... "I've gotten bucked off more horses than I've ridden, out of more marriages than I've entered and quit more jobs than I've started. But, somehow, by the grace of God, I survived...and learned a lot about what not to do." Doug spent his youth splashing in the lakes around St. Peter, Minnesota claiming he could teach anybody how to water ski. One of his favorite things to do was go sailing after all the noisy, stinky, gas hogs were put up for the night. After graduation he started Evangel Bible College in Springfield Missouri, only to quit after the first semester when he felt the need to go home and fix his parents broken marriage. He couldn't. After his parent's divorce Doug lost his moral compass and ended up driving a truck for Coke and getting involved with professional rodeo. Doug married a girl he met in the rodeo. They had four awesome children. Doug found his moral compass, helped pioneer a church, became the youth pastor, owned a floor covering business, life was great...until it wasn't. After twelve years of marriage...another divorce sent Doug spiraling out of control, again. He rebounded through two marriages that barely lasted long enough for the ink to dry until finally settling into a career as a storm chasing insurance adjuster. This life suited his restless soul for years as he helped folks suffering from natural disasters. He eventually healed enough to take another chance at love and he married again. This time it stuck. When Doug approached his fifty year mark he did some soul searching and he yielded to a buried passion--writing. Doug soon realized he had a gift for writing and felt a sense of accomplishment each time he wrote. He also realized his writing could help others. After half a century of getting bucked off life, mission and passion collided and Doug found his calling. He lives with Roxy, his wife, in Florisota (that's winter in Florida & summer in Minnesota). He still loves to Sail. Family, Prayer and Spiritual Warfare keep his heart pumping. His theme is: The strength of family, the power of prayer and the battles that rage against them. It is in those areas he constantly prays for you to succeed
