As a poet, Biran's only objective is to amass a fortune and return to Paris. The characters that surround him turn the wilderness of the jungle into a circus of ambitions and human absurdities. But things take a different turn with the arrival of a new officer, an unerring marksman who hides an enigmatic personality.
About the Author: Bernardo Atxaga (Asteasu, Gipuzkoa, 1951) es uno de los creadores de mayor hondura y originalidad en el panorama literario contemporaneo. Se licencio en Ciencias Economicas y desempeno varios oficios hasta que, a comienzos de los ochenta, consagro su quehacer a la literatura. La brillantez de su tarea fue justamente reconocida cuando su libro Obabakoak (1989) recibio el Premio Euskadi, el Premio de la Critica, el Prix Millepages y el Premio Nacional de Narrativa. La novela ha sido llevada al cine con el titulo Obaba. A Obabakoak le siguieron novelas como El hombre solo (1994), que obtuvo el Premio Nacional de la Critica de narrativa en euskera, Dos hermanos (1995), Esos cielos (1996), El hijo del acordeonista (2004, Premio Grinzane Cavour, Premio Mondello, Premio Times Literary Supplement Translation Prize y Premio de la Critica 2003 en su edicion en euskera) y Siete casas en Francia (2009, finalista en el Independent Foreign Fiction Prize2012, finalista en el Oxford Weidenfeld Translation Prize 2012). Tambien es autor de libros de poesia como Poemas & Hibridos, cuya version italiana obtuvo el Premio Cesare Pavese de 2003. Su obra ha sido traducida a 32 lenguas. Es miembro de la Academia de la Lengua Vasca.
