After a heartbreaking affair, Jade Silvan decides to avoid men and focus on her business as an architectural photographer. While working for her largest client in the Bahamas, still embittered from her cheating ex-fiancee, Jade meets a dark stranger, Trent. Jade believes is best to avoid him, but after a second encounter finds herself in bed with him only to learn later that he's a married man. Jade returns home to Atlanta determined to forget her passionate rendezvous in the Bahamas when she discovers that Trent heads up Glidden Development Group, her largest and most important client. Trent, in the last turbulent stages of a messy divorce, is delighted to discover Jade is the photographer his company hired. Since she is aloof and appears to have to interest in a long-term relationship, he devises excuses for her to accompany him while she is photographing the buildings his company is erecting. He decides the chemistry they share will bring her around. Jade is delighted when she finds out Trent is separated and in the process of divorcing. Yet when Jade realizes she is pregnant from her first encounter with Trent, she knows he will be thrilled since she had heard him express regret that he and his soon-to-be ex-wife never had children. Trent is elated with joy that the woman of his dreams is going to have his child and is in a rush to expedite the divorce with the greedy woman he had married, Lana. He offers Lana the money she has been demanding and tells her that he will finally have the child she refused him. Lana, in a desire to get more money from the divorce, scares Jade off. Lana tells Jade she has decided to take Trent back since she doesn't have to give birth herself, but that Trent could get custody of the unborn child Jade is carrying. Jade believes that she will lose her child to Trent and Lana since they have power and money. With a broken heart and feeling foolish for falling for another deceitful man, Jade takes off to her cousin's house in California, hoping Trent will not be able to find her. When Jade vanishes, Trent hires a private investigator who tracks Jade to the Big sur. Depressed and careless Jade falls causing a miscarriage. But when Trent finds her, he believes she aborted their child and has no feelings for him. When he returns to Atlanta, Trent insists that Jade return to complete the photography contract as soon as she is well enough or face being sued for breech of contract. When he overhears a snide comment Lana makes to Jade, Trent finally realizes his mistake. He must convince Jade to give him another chance, so he plots with his best friend, Asher, who is vice president of Gidden, to send Jade back to the condo in the Bahamas on a phony photography assignment where Trent is finally able to explain himself and convince Jade to marry him.
