About the Author:
Hlumisa Kwinana is a South African-born teacher who lives in the Gauteng Province of South Africa.
During her early years of teaching, she introduced a Youth Development Programme in various schools under the Department of Arts and Culture in the Eastern Cape Province. In 1999 she received an award for promoting youth skills in various categories, such as performing arts and creative arts.
Hlumisa later moved to the United Kingdom, where she took a course on children with special needs under the mentorship of Dr. Selman and Bellinda Harris.
The seed of this book germinated there.
She has worked in places of safety where she looked after abused and homeless children, former drug addicts, former young offenders, and victims of human trafficking. Working in such conditions enabled her to understand more about the importance of the course entitled Personal Social Development of the Child, which she took at Nottingham. The experience she gained in doing so contributed to the writing of this book.
The Professional Care Company, based in Essex, gave Hlumisa a Star of the Month award for her outstanding contributions in 2005.
Hlumisa has written a film script about early and forced marriages, practices she considers a violation of the rights of children to education.
