"Serio-Comic Vignettes" is a collection of comical-satirical pieces based in many cases on real life occurrences with a fair measure of my own touches.
A lot of stories are also based on my own experiences and observations.
Some of the incidents chronicled in this work were shared with me and stem from what was essentially encountered or recounted by others. I have tried to make use of my imaginative faculties in suitably developing the narrative details of those situational settings and occurrences.
◆ Wisecracking, sarcasm, wordplay and pun are just a few genres of humour that lend piquancy to human experience.
The work constitutes an ample diversity of funny/interesting situations spanning over a long period of time. The items have for their setting - student life, marital tidbits, work place, social get togethers and a host of other amusing and spicy slices of life and chronicle a wide array of circumstantial and experiential reality. In many stories, the protagonist could be seen as struggling both externally and internally with the locus of control, amidst varying situational factors and ongoing personal conflicts.
In a lighter vein, they showcase human nature with it vanities, foibles, eccentricities-idiosyncrasies, knack for the ridiculous and yearning to be understood and appreciated. Elements of absurdity, witticism and drama are deeply woven into human psyche and situation. In real life, tragedy and comedy forever swap roles and at times the bitter-sweet cocktail of life becomes a wee bit hard to swallow.
◆ Much of human condition is marked by a comic appeal coupled with a firm touch of sobering reality.
It does us good every now and then to drop our guard and give laughter a welcoming space in our recreation-starved lives. Laughter symbolizes joie de vivre, reinforcing feelings of well-being and is believed to have therapeutic properties.
◆ A feverish and unrelenting pace of activity in the post-modern times and a concomitant increase in stress and strain has wrought havoc on people's physical and psychological health.
It has become all the more advisable to take things easy and lighten up a bit and also to salvage one's identity from the debris of daily clutter. It is worth one's while to occasionally escape from the monotony of over-structured days. Stealing time for oneself is one's birthright and should be jealously guarded.
People dowered with a sense of humour and the ability to look at the funny side to things are generally better equipped to take on frustrations, setbacks and failures with aplomb and equanimity. Put another way, their attitude enables them to take a brighter and cheerier view of things in the midst of trying circumstances and this way they are able to roll with the punches, keep their sanity intact and find a foothold to survive and eventually prosper and succeed.
◆ The work is brimming with a multitude of voices - inner, judgemental, rebellious, naughty, satirical, farcical, comical, philosophical and serious, confident and shaky, sad and happy.
They mirror the multifarious facets of human nature and situation.
