Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2008 im Fachbereich Pädagogik - Schulpädagogik, Note: 1,0, Leuphana Universität Lüneburg (Institut für Pädagogik), Veranstaltung: Verstehende Methoden in der historischen Erziehungswissenschaft, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Seit den 1970er Jahren lässt sich in Deutschland ein Trend zum qualitativen Denken in der Sozialforschung beobachten. Es postuliert ein Denken, das die Dinge und Menschen, denen es sich annähern möchte, zunächst verstehen vermag. Viele Jahre dominierte vor allem unter Wissenschaftstheoretikern die Idee, mit einer einzigen Methode der Forschung alle Probleme des Wissens erfassen zu können. Am Beispiel der Naturwissenschaften schien man lernen zu können, welchen Standard Theorien und Methoden haben müssen, damit sie die Wirklichkeit repräsentieren. Insbesondere wurde mit präzisen Messungen gearbeitet, die anhand von Zahlen die Überprüfbarkeit der Arbeit sicherstellen sollten. Dadurch erhofften sich Forscher ein Schema der Erklärung zu finden, mit dessen Hilfe sich alle wissenschaftliche Fragestellungen in allen Disziplinen klären ließen. Doch unterscheidet sich die Vielzahl der Wissenschaften nicht nur durch ihre Annahmen über die Wirklichkeit, sondern verlangt beispielsweise das Thema "Natur" einen anderen Zugang zur Forschung als das Thema "Sinn". Der Ausspruch Wilhelm Diltheys "Die Natur erklären wir, das Seelenleben verstehen wir" verdeutlicht die Notwendigkeit der Differenzierung. Es stellte sich heraus, dass quantitative Methoden dem Anspruch der Sozialwissenschaften nicht gerecht werden konnten. Deshalb betrachtet die qualitative Forschung die Beforschten nicht lediglich als Objekte, sondern schreibt ihnen Reflexionsfähigkeit zu. Die Hermeneutik Wilhelm Diltheys, die gemäß Philipp Mayring als eine der Wurzeln qualitativen Denkens gilt, verbindet alles vom Menschen Hervorgebrachte mit subjektiven Bedeutungen, die es aufzudecken gilt, da die alleinige Analyse äußerlicher Charakteristika keine Fortschritte bringen kann
