Le présent Livre Premier de la série Camp Boiro est un récit-témoignage qui couvre une période de sept ans, allant du 14 juin 1971(date de l'arrestation de l'auteur) au 25 mai 1978 (date du retour au camp Boiro de Conakry, capitale de la République de Guinée, des quinze derniers rescapés de la prison civile de Kindia). Les évènements racontés se déroulent presque tous dans la prison civile de Kindia, que surplombe le Mont Gangan, dont la crête chauve, semblable au bec d'un carnassier géant, domine la ville. Cette montagne sorcière, qui se nourrit de sang d'homme, attend ses prochaines victimes. En effet, c'est au pied de cette montagne qu'on exécute les détenus politiques.
Son séjour dans ces lieux interdits permet à l'auteur de découvrir la face cachée du charismatique leader de la Révolution guinéenne Ahmed Sékou Touré et celle de ses cyniques et cruels collaborateurs qui agissent dans la nuit noire. Petit Barry l'Éditorialiste de la Voix de la Révolution connaissait le héros qu'il a baptisé dans une de ses émissions Fils du Peuple; il va découvrir le tyran et le destructeur d'hommes.
En effet, l''auteur parle de lui-même, de ses rapports avec Sékou Touré et les collaborateurs de ce dernier, dont certains sont devenus des bourreaux sûrs d'eux-mêmes, convaincus de leur force et de leur invincibilité. S'il évoque les bourreaux, Mamadou présente en contraste aux lecteurs les portraits de quelques belles et nobles figures de la Guinée nouvelle, des hommes dignes et humbles qui ont apporté une contribution inestimable à l'avènement d'un pays libre et fier, mais dont les corps sont tous enfouis dans des fosses communes.
Mais ce livre est aussi un hommage à sa famille qui a contribué à faire de lui ce qu'il est devenu: son Vénérable père El Hadj Thierno Abdoulaye Barry sa mère Maimouna Hann, sa grand-mère maternelle connue sous le nom de 'Maama Daguia '(Grand-mère de Daguia ), deux personnes qui lui sont particulièrement chères, mais .qu'il ne reverra pas, car elles mourront toutes les deux avant sa libération. En lisant le livre, vous découvrirez également la belle silhouette de Ngalou (qui signifie Trésor en pular), la jeune fiancée que Mamadou a laissé dehors. Elle hante et enchante le prisonnier du Mont Gangan, et son sourire reste gravé dans sa mémoire, comme un doux rayon de soleil, pendant toutes ces années de douleurs et de deuils.
