About the Book

THE PROMISE: ''Dear Sir, my name is Hans Steiner. I am writing to inform you that recently my Father passed away and, in his possessions, we found a notebook. (Please find enclosed.) We have reason to believe it was recovered off the Munich runway back in 1958, the day after the terrible crash which killed eight of your wonderful players, known as the Busby Babes. Such are the incredible personal details in this book I feel it only right to try and find out who this originally belonged to. If what is written in there is indeed true then, I am truly in a state of shock of sadness but joy also. How could this happen? Do angels really exist? Inscribed on its back cover is the name Tommy Doyle, 21 Collyhurst Road, Manchester. I was hoping in your position as head of communications at Manchester United football club you can help me find this person. If he is still alive. I can only apologise on my Father's behalf that he never originally returned this all those years ago. Why? I do not know. For him it was totally out of character. I can only hope that he thought it best to keep the details what is in this notebook a secret. As once read I am sure you will understand. Why break another heart when so many were being ripped open at the time? Yours sincerely, and hopefully, Hans Steiner PS: These are truly days of miracles and wonder.''EDDIE AND THE MILKMAN: Eddie and the milkman is a short novel telling of an unlikely friendship between a young Salford milkman, Ronnie Perkins and 'Busby Babe' Eddie Colman. Set in the final days leading up to the Munich air disaster and its immediate aftermath, the story unfolds with laughter, tears, tragedy and a host of wonderful characters, set around 9 Archie street Ordsall. The original setting for Coronation Street. Though a tale steeped in sadness, it ultimately surprises with a finale that proves some friendships prevail against all. Salford is well known for being a hot bed of Manchester United support, you're born with a birthright from the cradle to the grave. With Eddie and the milkman their friendship surpasses even that.1968: It's just gone past midnight into 29 May 1968, and the Manchester United manager Matt Busby is struggling to sleep. The day of the European cup final against Benfica has dawned. United's ten-year journey since the Munich air disaster, has been one laced with tragedy and heartache and none suffered more the scars of that dreadful event than Busby. On this fateful evening of hopefully Mancunian redemption, strange events begin occurring taking Busby to a place beyond his wildest dreams. Finally, giving him the opportunity to ease a broken heart and armed with a promise from an old friend, that come the time if needed against the Portuguese, Eusebio and all, the greatest football comeback of all time will occur. 1968, might well be a tall tale, but it doesn't pretend to be anything else and the ultimate finale, is one of it being a truly wonderful world.@johnluddsjohnludds@gmail.com
