En el prólogo, Cervantes se defiende irónicamente de las acusaciones del lopista Avellaneda y se lamenta de la dificultad del arte de novelar: la fantasía se vuelve tan insaciable como un perro hambriento. En la novela se juega con diversos planos de la realidad al incluir, dentro de ella, la edición de la primera parte del Quijote y, posteriormente, la de la apócrifa Segunda parte, que los personajes han leído. Cervantes se defiende de las inverosimilitudes que se han encontrado en la primera parte, como la misteriosa reaparición del rucio de Sancho después de ser robado por Ginés de Pasamonte y el destino de los dineros encontrados en una maleta de Sierra Morena, etc.
About the Author: Don Miguel de Cervantes y Saavedra (29 de septiembre de 1547 - 23 de abril de 1616) fue un novelista, poeta y dramaturgo español. Cervantes fue una de las personas más importantes e influyentes en la literatura y la principal figura asociada con la fluorescencia cultural de la España del siglo XVI (el Siglo de Oro). Su novela, Don Quijote, es considerada como un clásico fundador de la literatura occidental y regularmente figura entre las mejores novelas jamás escritas; se ha traducido a más de sesenta y cinco idiomas, mientras que las ediciones se siguen imprimiendo regularmente, y la discusión crítica del trabajo ha persistido incesantemente desde el siglo XVIII. Ha sido apodado el Príncipe de los Ingenios (el Príncipe de los Ingenios). Cervantes, nacido en Alcalá de Henares, era el cuarto de siete hijos en una familia cuyos orígenes pueden haber sido de la pequeña nobleza. La familia se trasladó de pueblo en pueblo, y se sabe poco de los primeros años de Cervantes. Cervantes hizo su debut literario en 1568. En 1570 se había alistado como soldado en un regimiento de infantería español y continuó su vida militar hasta 1575, cuando fue capturado por piratas de barbary en su regreso a casa. Fue rescatado por sus padres y los trinitarios y regresó con su familia en Madrid. En 1585, Cervantes publicó una novela pastoril, La Galatea. Debido a problemas financieros, Cervantes trabajó como proveedor de la Armada española y más tarde como recaudador de impuestos. En 1597, las discrepancias en sus relatos de tres años anteriores lo llevaron a la Cárcel de la Corona de Sevilla. En 1605 estuvo en Valladolid, justo cuando el éxito inmediato de la primera parte de su Don Quijote, publicado en Madrid, marcó su regreso al mundo literario. En 1607, se instaló en Madrid, donde vivió y trabajó hasta su muerte. Durante los últimos nueve años de su vida, Cervantes solidificó su reputación como escritor; publicó las Novelas ejemplares (Novelas ejemplares) en 1613, el Viaje al Parnaso (Viaje del Parnaso) en 1614, y en 1615, las Ocho comedias y ocho entremeses y la segunda parte de Don Quijote. Carlos Fuentes señaló que " Cervantes deja abiertas las páginas de un libro donde el lector sabe que debe escribirse. "
