Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2012 im Fachbereich Philosophie - Philosophie der Antike, Note: 2,3, FernUniversität Hagen (Institut für Philosophie), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Ziel der Hausarbeit ist die Erörterung der platonischen Seelen- und Tugendlehre und der Aufweis von Bezügen zur Mesotes-Lehre des Aristoteles. Dazu wird zunächst Platons These diskutiert, wonach die Seele die ihr eigentümliche Aufgabe, ein glückliches Lebens zu führen nur dann realisieren kann, wenn sie gerecht ist. In diesem Zusammenhang werden auch Überlegungen zu den zentralen Begriffen "Tugend" und "Gerechtigkeit" angestellt. Im Anschluss daran wird die Seelenlehre Platons, wie sie schwerpunktmäßig im 4. Buch der Politeia ausgearbeitet ist, erörtert. Es wird gezeigt, wie Platon die Tugenden und die Teile der Seele aus dem Modell eines zuvor konstruierten gerechten Staates ableitet. Die Seelenteile werden anhand des Modells der Polisentstehung (368b-372c) erläutert und es wird auf Schwierigkeiten bei der Interpretation des zweiten Seelenteils (der thymoeides) hingewiesen. Es wird vorgeschlagen, thymoeides als Aggressivität aufzufassen und dieser Vorschlag wird anhand der in 440b bis 441b angeführten Kriterien überprüft. Im zweiten Teil wird zunächst das Verhältnis der Seelenteile untereinander erörtert. Dabei wird die Rolle der Vernunft, die Platon als praktisches Wissen dessen, wie man mit sich selbst und anderen am besten umgeht (428d) gedeutet als die Kenntnis des rechten Maßes derjenigen Handlungsdispositionen (Charaktereigenschaften), die in einer konkreten Situation entscheidungsrelevant sind. Im Weiteren wird der Begriff des rechten Maßes näher bestimmt. Platon scheint eine Art von Fließgleichgewicht im Sinne zu haben, wenn man z.B. 470a-471c zugrundelegt, wo er je nach den herrschenden Umständen (Krieg gegen Hellenen vs. Krieg gegen Barbaren) unterschiedliche Ausprägungen von Aggressivität als tugendhaft ausweist.
