Amalia Guglielminetti es una poetisa y escritora italiana (1881-1941). De una personalidad solitaria y con tendencia a la depresión, su obra abarca varios registros: desde los cuentos infantiles (Fábulas en versos (Fiabe in versi, 1916), La reina Chiomadoro (La reginetta Chiomadoro, 1923), La araña encantada (Il ragno incantato, 1923) y La carrera de las marionetas (La carriera dei pupazzi, 1925)), a la poesía, entre la que destaca la obra que ahora se presenta en español, sin olvidar las novelas, los cuentos y las obras de teatro.
Debutó muy joven como poetisa con un volumen de versos, variados en métrica e inspiraciones, en el que influyó el estudio de los clásicos italianos y especialmente de Carducci llamado Voces de juventud (Voci di giovinezza, 1903). Pero la originalidad de su temperamento se reveló en Las vírgenes locas (Le vergini folli, 1907), una serie de sonetos, en los que se encierran, con una técnica vigilante, precisa y muy personal, momentos de una feminidad agresiva y ansiosa, temblorosa aún de los primeros sabores de la vida y del placer. Le siguieron Seducciones (Le seduzioni, 1909) que se presentan por primera vez al español traducidos por el escritor y traductor Javier Nodras, y El insomne (L'insonne, 1913). En ellos, la experiencia sensual es tan plena y madura que genera saciedad: la voluptuosidad, los deseos tórridos, la astucia, el refinamiento, la mentira, la embriaguez y la locura, los caprichos, la tristeza, la náusea, son descritos con sinceridad de investigación y desnudez de expresión. Tal vez el acento más profundo de su poesía esté en esa sensación de tristeza y tedio, en la que al final se encierra el dolor estéril de la carne, al que Amalia Guglielminetti se somete realmente como víctima, mientras se ilusiona con dominarlo por una deliberada voluntad de experiencia. De este malentendido surge una de las principales características común a su poesía, que revela el tormento sensual, pero no lo supera ni lo purifica, siempre en tonos fuertemente autobiográficos.
De sus obras en prosa (tanto cuentos como novelas y obras de teatro), cabe destacar entre estas últimas El amante desconocido (L'amante ignoto, 1911), en el que el drama de la mujer que ve desvanecerse su belleza y triunfar la juventud en el amor, se libra de la confesión lírica.
Fundó y dirigió durante algunos años una revista de novelas, Seducciones (Seduzioni, 1926).
De entre su producción en prosa, destaca Los ojos rodeados de azul (Gli occhi cerchiati d'azzurro, 1918), La venganza del macho (La rivincita del maschio, 1923), Cuando tuve un amante (Quando avevo un amante, 1924), Tipos extraños (Tipi bizzarri, 1931), y en su obra para teatro, Topos y ardillas y La trampa del amor (Nei e cicisbei e Il baro dell'amore, 1926).
