About the Author: Hi, I'm Ron. As I enter my Golden Years (I'm 65 at the time of this writing), I'm becoming more aware and interested in the different tips and techniques that I can use to slow down the aging process. Anti-aging topics like, good nutrition, adequate exercise, skin care, weight management and living a healthy lifestyle are keys to keep one looking and feeling younger than their numerical age. Like they say "Age is only a number." and "You are as young as you feel." are both good mantras to keep in mind. And it is so true. There are things you can do to preserve your mobility, health and body functions well into your senior years. In regard to topics like good nutrition, seniors sometimes do not eat the right types or quantity of food. As we grow older, our metabolism slows down and if we are eating the same amount or types of food as we did when we were younger, we will put on weight - a huge issue in older adults. This in turn leads to other health issues, such as obesity and diabetes. Another area often overlooked as we get older is exercise. However, getting some daily exercise helps burn off those extra calories you are eating; if you burn off more calories than you eat, you'll lose weight. Strength training is a type of exercise older adults should do because it keeps their bones strong and delays, prevents, and in some cases, reverses bone loss. Besides strength training, yoga and Pilates are two exercise programs that can help increase balance and flexibility. Falls from losing one's balance are the number one cause of seniors breaking bones. In many cases, they never fully regain their independence and end up in a care facility. If you attend classes, just make sure they are geared toward your age group. Just so you know, I do not have a degree or even any credentials in health and fitness, my degree is in business administration. But what I do have that is relevant is an insatiable passion for senior health. I'm going to grow older year-by-year - I know I can't stop that, but I plan to go kicking and screaming in the process. I, like many of you, want to stay as young and healthy for as long as I can. The information in this book can help you do that.
