Recordemos la historia del Rey Midas... Cuenta la leyenda que hace muchos pero muchos años atrás existió un rey llamado Midas, un hombre que a pesar de ser muy rico, su mayor deseo en la vida era tener para sí todo el oro del mundo. Un día Midas caminando por el bosque se topó con el dios Sileno, quien se encontraba perdido de sus dominios, el rey le ayudó a encontrar su camino de retorno y este a cambio, en señal de gratitud le otorgó la gracia de hacer realidad su mayor deseo. Midas sin titubear pidió al dios Sileno que todo aquello que tocara se convirtiera en oro y a pesar de que el dios le advirtió que se trataba de un deseo muy ambicioso y que podría ocasionarle problemas, éste, convencido de que eso era lo único que quería insistió y literalmente así le fue concedido. Sus ropas, las ramas de árboles, piedras en el camino, hasta su caballo, absolutamente todo lo que tocaba el rey se convertía en oro y eso lo hacía muy feliz, claro que la felicidad no le duró mucho. Poco tiempo pasó y la preocupación invadió al rey, se encontraba hambriento y al tocar su cena, esta también se convirtió en oro, así pasó con el agua que se disponía a beber, con las flores perfumadas de su jardín, con sus hijos y qué decir de sus sirvientes quienes salieron huyendo despavoridos por temor a ser convertidos en estatuas. Al rey prontamente le llegó la hora de maldecir la fortuna, de llorar y de buscar al dios Sileno a quien le imploró le quitara el poder que lo había convertido en el hombre más solo y desgraciado del mundo. Sileno tuvo compasión del pobre hombre, le despojó del don no sin antes dejarle claro que la avaricia y el materialismo extremo deshumanizaba a las personas y las convertía en seres absolutamente infelices. A partir de ese momento el rey Midas reconoció su gran equivocación se desprendió de la codicia y en lo adelante aprendió a compartir sus bienes con los pobres y desposeídos. La moraleja tras la historia del rey Midas es un tema de reflexión desde varias ópticas. En principio, la ambición por el dinero es buena y sana mientras se le sepa racionalmente dar el justo valor. En otras palabras, hay que tener visión responsable de aquello que fervientemente se desea. Prosperidad, riqueza y dinero no es lo mismo. Quien no desea y no se enfoca en ser próspero, rico y que la abundancia rodee cada espacio y aspecto de su vida jamás lo obtendrá. Sin embargo, hay que partir de la premisa de que la prosperidad, la abundancia y la riqueza nacen en nuestro interior y aunque estos conceptos se relacionan con el dinero, no son causados por este.
