About the Book

Sonny Duncan and his mother Margaret travel from Georgia to East Texas to visit Cousin Henry. The shiny black Hudson is loaded for the long and adventurous journey. Only two go out, but along the way Polly and Heather join the family. The cramped vehicle is filled with luggage, items of travel necessity, and love. From one challenge to another, they make the journey of a lifetime. Excitement, adventure, and love fill the pages of this early 1920s novel. "Second Generation, A Long Way to Texas" follows the family first introduced in the Mathew Duncan Trilogy.
About the Author: Sidney A. Brown is a native of East Point, Georgia, but spent many hours of his childhood in the Stonewall community where his grandparents and great-grandparents lived. Stonewall was originally in Campbell County until 1932 when it merged into Fulton County. His devotion to the historical town of Campbellton, the original county seat of Campbell County, leads him on wondrous journeys through times gone by. Brown was elected President of the Old Campbell County Historical Society in 2015. The Society was founded in 1971. It occupies the last courthouse of Campbell County, located in Fairburn, Georgia. The county seat was moved from Campbellton to Fairburn in 1870. This genealogical and historical research center speaks softly to the author as weekly duties are performed in the old courthouse building, along with other volunteers. Brown was fortunate to witness the last years of the steam locomotives that operated on the historic Atlanta & West Point Railroad. The last few years of the Campbellton Ferry also spurred his imagination as he crossed the Chattahoochee River with his grandfather. The marvel and wonder of the Model A, Model T, and open top roadsters that his grandfather worked on as a local mechanic drew Brown further into the allure of yesteryear. He fired his first rifle at the age of six. Black powder smoke billowed from the .32-20 Winchester 1873 as his grandfather held the barrel of the long, heavy rifle. Now the TV western heroes came to life! Yesteryear was in his soul. The author's professional career included thirty-five years as a mechanical designer before becoming a law enforcement officer for fifteen years. Somewhere along the way, the calling of Southern based historical writing developed, along with his personal collection of factual information. Sidney A. Brown was recognized with Honorable Mention by the Georgia Writer's Museum for his entry in the annual creative writing contest in October 2015.
