About the Book

Chancellor "Chance" Symons II was a decorated Marine Corps fighter pilot-a TOPGUN grad steeped in the non-PC battle-hardened mold of hard drinking, hard partying fliers who were known to Tease the Bear from time to time. He is brought back to active duty to command VFC-46, Det A, an eclectic mix of fourth generation F-5, F-15, F16, and F/A-18 fighters manned by the hottest sticks in the business. Their mission-teach the latest fifth generation F-22 and F-35 stealth pilots a thing or two about dog fighting.Behind the scenes political wrangling the Secretary of the Navy-who developed the concept-and the Commandant of the Marine Corps-who is convinced it is a great waste of money-threaten his newfound opportunity to yank and bank with the best of them. Will Chance's fondness for strong drink and beautiful women derail his dream job before the budget ax falls? Can any fourth generation fighter really beat the magic new jets? What will he make of his SECOND CHANCE?
About the Author: Marshall Lefavor, Lt. Col. United States Marine Corps (Ret), Call Sign- Wardog. He began his storied Marine Corps life as an artillery officer and migrated to aviation, first as an aerial observer serving in Vietnam during '67-69. He transitioned to a RIO with VMFA-122 in the F4-B Phantom. He enjoyed the Golden Age of Naval Aviation during the '80s including TOPGUN and logged 1,224 hours in various aircraft to include training in the F-14 Tomcat. Marshall was privileged to fly with some of the best Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and RCAF fighter pilots flying as both the fighters and bogeys in the A-4, F-5, F-14, F-15, F-16, F/A-18 and AV-8 and considers himself most fortunate to team with Buck on this first venture into fiction. Without Buck's valued help, he wouldn't be writing this.Marshall had written non-fiction articles for such periodicals as Air Power, the Marine Corps Gazette, and the Association of Naval Aviation's Wing of Gold magazine. Buck Stienke-Call Sign Shoehorn-US Air Force Academy Class of 1971, amassed over 22,000 flight hours in his long and varied flying career that began where he was the tender age of five. He piloted his first military aircraft (a DC-3) the week after he turned 18 and went on to experience the joy of flying supersonic in the T-38 Talon and F-101 Voodoo. He flew over 3,000 air-to-air intercepts in Alaska, as well as DACT, ground attack and photo reconnaissance missions. In his spare time, he flew tail draggers and ski equipped aircraft as a bush pilot in the wilds of the largest state and later was the Offensive Captain of the Austin Texans football team. After leaving the Air Force, he became an international airline captain and twenty five years later, retired from the Boeing 767-400ER. Buck has written a number of successful novels in three different genres-Military Action, Western Historical Fiction and Science Fiction. He is very proud to team up with Wardog on this, his first novel.
