Before sailing from California to New York to find new investors he entrusts a fortune in gold, intended to buy out the Big Four, to Doc Strong and Jim Smiley. Pursued by Pinkerton detectives Strong and Smiley hide the gold somewhere near Donner Pass in the High Sierra Mountains. Nearly a century after the building of the first transcontinental railroad, archeologist Dan Strong and his partner Kate Kelly search for Judah's Gold that was hidden along the original route of the Central Pacific Railroad. Their search takes them on a coast to coast adventure matching wits with a black market treasure hunter and a relentless millionaire art collector.
About the Author: ABOUT THE AUTHOR Ralph Orlandella is a native Californian, born and raised in Lodi, California. He was exposed to railroading and California history at a very young age. His father and uncle owned a produce- packing company in Lodi, and Ralph would frequently visit their fruit-packing shed and watch as blocks of railroad refrigerator cars were loaded for shipment to east coast markets. He witnessed the railroad's transition from steam locomotives to diesel electric locomotives. Lodi is located as a gateway to California's "gold country," and Ralph's family would take frequent trips up to the Mother Lode counties. Ralph was impressed the area's rich history. Ralph received a bachelor's degree and doctorate in pharmacy from the University of the Pacific. During his college days, he was fortunate to have the opportunity to study California history under historian Dr. R. Coke Wood, named "Mr. California" by the California legislature. Ralph's professional career included working as a director of pharmacy, a hospital administrator, and a pharmacy inspector for the California State Board of Pharmacy, where his investigations brought him to all four corners of the state. His railroad experience includes a decade as the president of the volunteer docent council at the California State Railroad Museum. There he helped found the museum's very successful Sacramento Southern Railroad, which provides steam railroad excursions from Old Sacramento State Park. He also helped develop the museum's Amtrak Interpretive Program, which daily provides narrators on Amtrak's California Zephyr on the Sierra Nevada Mountain's Donner Pass route, between Sacramento and Reno. Ralph also has served as the executive director of the California State Railroad Museum Foundation and has owned and operated private passenger railcars across the United States. Ralph has combined all of his experience and love of California railroad history and adventure novels to write Search For Judah's Gold. He has interwoven a fictional adventure story line with real events and actual places that were part of Theodore Judah's dream-the building of the first transcontinental railroad.
