Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2007 im Fachbereich Kunst - Malerei, Note: 1,0, Universität Trier (Fachbereich III), Veranstaltung: Die Erfindung des Raumes in der Malerei, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Im italienischen Seicento - dem späten 17. Jahrhundert - wird in Rom im Auftrag der Kirche eine Kunstgattung neu erfunden, die - obgleich bereits seit der Antike bekannt - in dieser neuen Form ihresgleichen sucht. Der Illusionismus, der bislang stets als Spielerei mit Raumwahrnehmung, mathematischer Perspektivkonstruktion und technischen Fähigkeiten ein Schattendasein fristete, wird plötzlich zum Hauptelement des Bilderschmuckes in mehreren Kirchen, nicht nur in Rom, sondern auch in Wien - um nur ein Beispiel zu nennen. Diese Arbeit will sich mit den Hintergründen und Absichten dieser Zuwendung zum Illusionismus auseinandersetzen. Anhand zweier Beispiele - der Kirchen San' Ignazio und Il Gesù - soll aufgezeigt werden, inwiefern sich diese 'neuen' Typen des Bilderschmuckes von der traditionellen Malweise innerhalb eines Kirchenraumes unterscheiden. Die Kernfrage erscheint dabei fast zu einfach: Warum setzte man Illusionsmalerei in diesen beiden Kirchenräumen ein? Wieso wollte man - musste man - die Fertigkeiten der beteiligten Künstler bis zur perfekten optischen Täuschung ausreizen? Handelte es sich nur darum, durch besondere Kunstfertigkeit aufzufallen, oder war es nicht vielmehr so, dass man besondere Bildinhalte vermitteln wollte, die man mit Hilfe der Illusionsmalerei besser verdeutlichen konnte? Hierbei wird auch die Rolle des Auftraggebers dieser beiden Kirchen zu betrachten sein: Die Societas Iesu, der Jesuitenorden. Die beiden Jesuitenkirchen gehörten zu den wichtigsten Gotteshäusern des Ordens, nicht nur in Rom, sondern überhaupt. Im zweiten Themenkomplex soll dargestellt werden, inwieweit sich die Ansprüche und Ziele der Jesuiten mit der Anwendung und Perfektionierung der Illusionsmalerei gegenseitig beeinflussen.
