Scourge is the story of rookie Detective Angela Benson beginning the journey to find her destiny.
The story begins as her and her partner, Joe Anderson, are investigating homicides in New York City that have some gritty similarities. The victims are mostly the homeless, deaths that would most likely go unnoticed. Little do they know that the murders are being committed by a clan of vampires working from the shadows, seeking a spell book of great power. The book they seek, combined with the other four already in vampire possession, would allow Earth be reshaped to the desires of the one commanding the books.
The police, with help from a detective from Scotland Yard, are trying to stop the killings and keep them secret for fear or causing a panic, made no easier when the media claims serial killers are at work. They try to make sense of what they find, ultimately accepting that the unbelievable is happening in their city, and trying to find the means to combat the vampires.
A natural predator named Daxxe, born of magic, also exists, who recruits Angela to the cause, taking her on as his protector during daylight hours. Daxxe is a gargoyle, sent to protect the realm of Earth from evil, and to help protect the balance between good and evil. Vampires, in a turn of fate, came to be from a gargoyle turning to evil and going against his true nature, corrupting the magic, and leading to some similarities between their species. The two species wage a hidden war for the fate of Earth's realm.
Daxxe soon realizes that Angela is quite adept in her abilities, understanding that she is something more as she finds her destiny, learning to use her brawn with a sword, and her brain to delve into the magic available to her. Their quest is to prevent mankind falling under the dominion of complete evil.
Angela has her own internal struggles wrought from events in her past that are intricately linked to the path before her.
Scourge is the first book of a trilogy. The second installment, Demons, is also complete.
