Die Debatte konzentriert sich stark auf Deutschland, weil der Antisemitismus hier seine verheerendsten Ausmaße angenommen hat. Von einer antisemitischen Bewegung in Skandinavien erfährt man dagegen wenig. Die norwegische Theologin Ingun Montgomery schrieb 1982 in Kirken, krisen og krigen, der Antisemitismus habe es zu schwer, sich ins schwedische Bewusstsein zu integrieren. 1942 und '43 forderte der Sozialdemokrat Erik Gottfrid Christian Brandt im schwedischen Reichstag zweimal eine Gesetzgebung gegen Rassenpropaganda. Der Vorschlag stieß zwar auf Interesse, wurde aber jedes Mal abgelehnt. Antisemitismus wurde als jüdisches und als deutsches, aber nicht als schwedisches Problem betrachtet. Wer allerdings Roy Anderssons neuesten Film Du Levande gesehen und aufgepasst hat, der hat gesehen, dass es auch in der schwedischen Gesellschaft zumindest Nazis gegeben haben muss: Als in einer offenbar wohl situierten Familie im Rahmen eines Zaubertricks das Tischtuch von der Festtafel gezogen wird, kommt darunter ein dickes Hakenkreuz zum Vorschein. Und Nationalsozialismus ist zwar nicht synonym mit Antisemitismus, aber das tragende Element des Nationalsozialismus ist Antisemitismus. In der Verfilmung von Jan Guillous Roman Ondskan wird mit der Figur eines Lehrers noch direkter auf die Verbreitung von Nazismus, Rassenideologie und Antisemitismus in der schwedischen Gesellschaft der 1940er und 50er Jahre hingewiesen: Dieser stellt der Klasse den blonden und athletisch gebauten schwedischen Schüler Erik Ponti als vorbildliches Exemplar der arischen Rasse vor.
