Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2009 im Fachbereich Didaktik- Klassische Philologie - Latinistik, Note: 2,3, Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena (Altertumswissenschaften), Veranstaltung: lateinische Fachdidaktik, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Krell greift in ihrem Artikel "Kein Leseverstehen ohne Sprechen und Schreiben!", die Diskussion in der Schul- und Bildungspolitik um die Bedeutung und Aktualität des Lateinunterrichts auf, um zu bekräftigen, dass neben seiner hohen Bedeutung für die Allgemeinbildung das Lateinische als "Muttersprache Europas" die Basis zum Erlernen moderner europäischer Fremdsprachen sein kann. Hinzu kommt, das der Lateinunterricht durchaus zu einem verbesserten Umgang mit der Muttersprache führen kann, und durch die damit einhergehende Erweiterung des Wortschatzes auch keinesfalls, wie von vielen behauptet ein Elitefach ist, sondern gerade nicht elitären Schülern beim Erreichen von Chancengleichheit helfen kann. Im Lateinunterricht werden die Sprachkenntnisse in der Regel über Rezeption und Kognition erworben, wobei der Wortschatz und die Grammatik auf passive Weise beim Übersetzen von Texten erlernt und gefestigt werden. Das Hauptziel des Lateinunterrichts liegt allerdings nicht, wie beim modernen fremdsprachlichen Unterricht, im aktiven Gebrauch der Sprache, sondern eher darin, eine möglichst effektive Lektürefähigkeit zu erlernen. Das Problem, welches Krell hierbei sieht, ist, dass eine Sprache nicht allein durch Rezeption und Kognition erlernt werden kann: "Übersetzen lernt man nicht durch ausschließliches Übersetzen, Lesen und Verstehen lernt man nicht durch ausschließliches Lesen." Denn es hat sich erwiesen, dass durch diese Methoden allein, sich die Lektürefähigkeit der Schüler nicht besonders stark ausprägt. Natürlich darf hierbei nicht außer Acht gelassen werden, dass lateinische Texte auch aufgrund der differenzierten Syntax und der hohen Sprachökonomie in der Regel freilich schwieriger zu verstehen sind als Texte der modern
