Die 1910 erstmals erschienenen "Schnurren des Rochus Mang" gehören wie "Die Weltlichen Gesänge des Egidius Pfanzelter" (1909) und "Der Wöchentliche Beobachter von Polykarpszell" (1911) zu den satirischen und humoristischen Schriften Georg Queris. Mit dieser Sammlung von kurzen und unterhaltsamen Erzählungen, die einem fiktiven Dorfbader mit Namen Rochus Mang als einem typischen Vertreter der dörflichen Welt in den Mund gelegt werden, weist sich Queri erneut als einer der besten Vermittler bairischer Sprache und Lebensart aus. Viele dieser Schnurren wurden und werden bis heute weiter erzählt. So hat auch Oskar Maria Graf die Geschichte "Vom Hirnpecker" in sein frivoles "Bayrische Dekameron" (1928) aufgenommen. Auch Graf zeigte sich ebenso wie Georg Queri von dem oft stark erotischen Charakter und der prallen Lebenslust der Schnurre fasziniert.
About the Author: Georg Queri wurde am 30. April 1879 in Frieding geboren. 1902 begann er seine journalistische Laufbahn als Lokal- und Gerichtsreporter bei den Münchner Neuesten Nachrichten; 1908 wurde er Chefredakteur des Starnberger Land- und Seeboten, daneben arbeitete er für die Zeitschrift Jugend, deren Redaktion er im Januar 1918 bis zu seinem Tod übernahm; im Ersten Weltkrieg arbeitete er eineinhalb Jahre als Kriegsberichterstatter für das Berliner Tageblatt. Zu seinen wichtigen literarischen Veröffentlichungen gehören Lieder (Die weltlichen Gesänge des Egidius Pfanzelter von Polykarpszell, 1909), Erzählungen (Die Schnurren des Rochus Mang, Baders, Meßners und Leichenbeschauers zu Fröttmannsau, 1910), Theaterstücke (Matheis bricht's Eis, 1918) und ein posthum erschienener Roman (Der Kapuziner, 1920). Literaturgeschichtlich bemerkenswert ist seine zusammen mit Ludwig Thoma herausgegebene erste Anthologie bayerischer Autorinnen und Autoren (Bayernbuch, 1913). Mit seinen umfangreichen volkskundlichen Sammlungen (Bauernerotik und Bauernfehme in Oberbayern, 1911 und Kraftbayrisch, 1912) geriet er ins Visier von Polizei und Staatsanwaltschaft. Wegen eines lebenslangen Leidens, das auf einen tragischen Unfall in frühester Jugend zurückging, starb Queri bereits mit vierzig Jahren am 21. November 1919 in München.
