About the Book

English Summary: Since the election and counter-election in 1378, two opponents have competed for the papacy in Western Christendom. Both found support in parts of Europe, which consequently split into two obedience areas. For over 30 years, new proposals for the solution of this Great Occidental Schism have been made, but the papacy doubled. It was not until 1408/1409, when cardinals of both sides renounced their leaders and jointly conducted a papal council in Pisa, that the frontlines changed considerably. The volume deals with this Council of Pisa in 1409 as a specific attempt to solve the schism. He understands the Pope's schism as a conflict of contrarian interpretations, whose opposition to one another essentially influenced the via concilii as well as the coming into being and the organization of the Pisan Council. The subject of the work is thus a medieval problem as well as the ways in which people tried at that time to solve it - with special attention to via concilii, the solution of the Council. For this purpose, the work undertakes a comprehensive analysis of the practice of Pisanum and previous drafts of the Council as well as the interpretations developed and conflicting with it German Description: Seit Wahl und Gegenwahl im Jahr 1378 konkurrierten in der westlichen Christenheit zwei Kontrahenten um das Papstamt.
