About the Book

It has been four years since the fall of Avalenon-two years since Seira and Kaion, Sarphedon and Electra's best friends, were called back to Nassai, new capital of Tayahon since Kazahana was taken by the Empire.

Sarphedon and Electra, who have also been called back, sail to Nassai on the Lancia River. On the way, they meet a storm and lose their boat. Sarphedon grabs Electra and seizes a rod stuck in an ice block-the broken, rusted Scherazeidt.

At the palace, they head to Seira's room. However, Seira is in a tower on the shore of the Aria Lake.

When they arrive at the tower, Seira has already thrown herself into the Aria. Sarphedon tells Electra to call a healer and pulls Seira out. Unfortunately, she loses her memories. Sarphedon and Electra soon learn that Ayuta, who had been like a mother to them for the past four years, as well as half of those who were with her, were killed by Kaion.

Satoshi, concerned for Seira and his kingdom, erases her from the minds of those who know her face, except from the few he trusts, and pretends she has died. He gives her a new identity: Commander 'Rin' of the rangers, a position Kaion left empty after escaping.

Two years later, Tayahon and the Resistance form a complete alliance. To protect Nassai, the leaders of the Resistance ask Seira to use her magic to build a fortress around the city. She accepts and asks Sarphedon to contain the magic while she works on the fortress.

After the work is done, Seira, satisfied with the fortress, heads back down the hills. Sarphedon loses sight of her. He follows and sees Seira's way blocked by an Empire soldier and a hooded man who turns out to be Kaion. Kaion, however, believing Seira really is dead, does not recognize her. Apparently, the two had been sent to capture Sarphedon.

Sarphedon fights against Kaion but eventually loses. Strangely enough, Kaion tells him that Scherazeidt will 'test' him, knocks out the Empire soldier and leaves.

Wishing to be taught magic, Sarphedon summons Shirakai, the long-dead Sage of the Red Moons, who tells him that he may have inherited Beastmaster powers from his mother.

Meanwhile, Seira's father tells her that the Empire will arrive in less than a month, and she passes the news on.

The Empire arrives as predicted, but fortunately for Tayahon and the Resistnace, Aranahal sends half its army to fight against the Empire. The Aranahim leader tells Satoshi that someone had visited the Aranahim King and had somehow convinced him to ally his kingdom to Tayahon and the Resistance.

The battle begins. Well into the battle, Electra chases after Kaion, craving revenge. Sarphedon and Seira follow. Desiring more than ever for her memories of Kaion, Seira runs to where he is, loses control of herself and throws herself into his arms. Not knowing who she really is, Kaion merely heads back to the Empire. Seira, mind in turmoil, leaves without a word to Sarphedon and Electra.

Upon arriving at the battlefield, she unleashes her magic. It bursts out, killing all the Empire soldiers around her.

After finding Seira and taking her to a healer, Sarphedon dashes back outside to finish off the remaining Empire soldiers. He unconsciously pulls out the shards of Scherazeidt instead of his usual sword. The sword vibrates and heats up. Fearing the blade's power, he tries to force the magic back in, to no avail. To his relief, Electra pushes it back into the pouch where it had been, making the magic dissipate.

After the battle, Sarphedon learns that he must take Seira to the Rovers if he wishes to save her. Soon after, a mysterious, masked Tayahonian ranger offers to help him master his Beastmaster powers. Sarphedon accepts, and they begin their journey; first to the Rovers, then to find the contract and someone to reforge Scherazeidt.
