About the Book

ABOUT JIM HENSON AND SATISFACTION GUARANTEED: IN CHICAGO Young lovers from California make the trek to Chicago via the trans-Canadian highway. Upon arrival, they encounter a wonderful and diverse landscape filled with an abundance of warm, genuine, caring and strange characters whose customs entertain and mystify. 1966-1969, a tumultuous period that witnessed the winter of deepest snowfall, the Democratic National Convention/ police riot of 1968, and the aftermath of the death of Martin Luther King, Jr. Reader beware: this is no straightforward history, more aptly described as a metaphorical journal. As seen through the eyes of graduate student and fledgling psychotherapist Jim Henson, Satisfaction Guaranteed: In Chicago will take you on a seriously humorous trips all around the town. Satisfaction Guaranteed: In Chicago is Jim Henson's second non-fiction book and is the prequel to his book Pee Up A Tree: A Mental Health Memoir which take place in the Umpqua Valley of Oregon following the stint in Chicago.
About the Author: Jim Henson was born in the Rogue River Valley of Oregon in 1944. He attended college in San Diego, where he majored in psychology. There he met and married his bride of 45 years and counting. They moved to Chicago in 1966, and stayed through the deepest snowfall in recorded history and the Democratic Convention/Police Riot in 1968. Jim is a graduate of the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration, and has worked in the field of mental health for the past 40 years. He is the co-parent of two adult children and has four grandchildren. Jim has a BA degree in psychology from California Western University. He was admitted to the dual degree program at McCormick Theological Seminary and the University of Chicago. After completing one year at McCormick, Jim transferred to a full time student position at the University of Chicago, where he completed his Master's degree in clinical social work. Jim completed the requirements for ACSW and Diplomat status with the National Association of Social Workers. Additional postgraduate studies lead to Clinical Member status in the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and Certified Sex Therapist and Diplomat in Sex Therapy in the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists. Jim is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Oregon and served under the appointment of four Oregon Governors on the State Clinical Social Work Licensing Board. Jim was elected to serve as Chair of the licensing board for five of his 11-year appointment. Jim served on the national board of Directors of the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists, and was Chair of the Ethics Committee of the Or. Assn. of Marriage and Family Therapy. After graduating from the University of Chicago, Jim worked for the Family Service Bureau of Chicago before moving to Oregon. Jim worked as a Psychiatric Social Worker for Douglas County Family Service Clinic, a full service outpatient mental health service for just under four years. In the fall of 1973, Jim moved to Bend Oregon where he served as County Mental Health Director for four years. In 1977, Jim moved into full time private practice, from which he retired on Halloween, 2008. As of mid-2010, he continues to do some clinical case consultation and education work and is an active Mental Health Examiner for Circuit Court for Deschutes County. Jim began writing for pleasure in the early 1990s.
