About the Book

This book is a collection of 20 poems and images that are inspired by the tragic events that resulted from Superstorm Sandy. Poet Michael Foldes chronicles what he witnessed during the months after the storm. Artist Christie Devereaux's dramatic storm images reveal the forces of nature that were inspired by Superstorm Sandy. The poet and artist have dedicated this book to the courageous responders and victims who persevered to help rebuild after the storm.
About the Author: Christie Devereaux was born in Brooklyn. She studied at Pratt Institute and has a degree in Industrial Design. While at Pratt, Ms. Devereaux also studied modern dance at the Henry Street Settlement in Manhattan. She has performed with famed choreographer, Robert Wilson, and went on tour for a year with the Electric Circus. In 1969, Ms. Devereaux moved to Italy. While in Italy, she worked as an industrial designer and graphic artist. In addition, she painted commissions for the church and the state. Her most noted commissioned portrait is of Padre Pio, which is in a permanent collection in the Museum of Padre Pio, Pietrelcina, Italy. Examples of this work can be viewed at www.christiedevereaux.com. In 1980, Ms. Devereaux returned to New York. She has participated in numerous shows. Her work has been on display in New York City at the Lever House, Broome Street Gallery, and New World Art Center, the Chung-Cheng Art Gallery at St. John's University. In 2012, she had a solo show at the Interchurch Center in NYC. Finally, from 1995 to the present, she has focused most of her energies on a series of paintings and sculptures that are designed to engage the viewer in a self-reflection process from a secular, political, and spiritual perspective. Her seascapes represent the artist's reflection on her personal experience with the forces of nature. Michael Foldes is founder and managing editor of Ragazine.CC, the independent, online magazine of art, information and entertainment. (http: //ragazine.cc). A graduate of The Ohio State University in anthropology, he has edited and published magazines, poetry anthologies, chapbooks, alternate newspapers, technical publications, and was an editor and columnist with Gannett newspapers. He is author of Sleeping Dogs: A true story of the Lindbergh baby kidnapping and the trial of Bruno Richard Hauptmann (Split Oak Press, Ithaca, NY, 2012; Smashwords; Amazon). He sits on the advisory board of the Campaign for an Informed Citizenry (http: //www.cicorg.com), and the poetry committee of "We Are You Project" (http: //www.weareyouproject.org/#!poets/cmc3). He is a contributor to the Bucharest-based Contemporary Literary Horizon, and a regular participant in "Crossroads," an annual international literary event held in upstate New York. His articles, editorials, poems and stories have appeared in publications worldwide, some in translation into Romanian, Hungarian, French and Spanish. He is a sales engineer by trade.
