About the Book

Sanctity tells the stories of an ordinary man, Tommy Capps, and his extraordinary experiences as a PFC in Vietnam and a state investigator specializing in crimes against children. The vivid flashbacks of his experiences as a nineteen-year-old draftee in 1966 and his investigation of a serial rapist in the peaceful Mennonite community in the 1990s intertwine with Capps' memories of growing up in rural Missouri in the 1940s and 1950s. The memories and flashbacks-including optimistic, yet naive, letters he sent home to his parents-allow a glimpse into how the realities and horrors of war shaped Capps into the outstanding investigator he would one day become. This memoir is captivating and intricately interwoven.
About the Author: Teresa Garrison-Capps was born in Versailles, Missouri, on October 26, 1953. She attended the Morgan County R-II schools where she graduated in 1971. Teresa attended Washburn Uni¬ver¬sity, Topeka, Kansas. Teresa has three children: Vanissa Dunklee, Dustin Dunklee, and Desirae Lipp. And three bonus children: Andrew Capps, Amy Weise, and Anna Capps. She was a legal assistant for the Morgan County prosecuting attorney. While working for the prosecutor, Teresa met Tommy, a recently divorced deputy sheriff. They were married March 2, 1985, and blended two families. While working and caring for a family that had doubled, Teresa attended William Woods College, Fulton, Missouri, furthering her education in Legal Studies. In 1987, Teresa was offered a position as an income maintenance caseworker for the Division of Family Services. She worked with families in crisis in eligibility determinations for Food Stamps, Aid for Dependent Children, Medicaid for the disabled and Medicaid for the elderly in nursing homes. Teresa was diagnosed with severe rheumatoid arthritis at the age of thirty-seven and retired in 1993. Because Tommy is retired military and eligible for Tricare, Teresa was able to receive the first of the biological drugs created for RA in 1999. These miraculous treatments allowed Teresa to complete her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology in 2002 from Columbia College. Teresa served on the Versailles City Council from 1998 - 2002. In 2002, she also ran unsuccessfully for Democratic State Representative of the 116th District on the platform of Health Care Reform. The biological drugs stopped the progression of joint deformities and enabled Teresa to once again dress herself, drive a car and walk. She returned to full time employment with The Missouri Department of Social Services Children's Division in 2003. During her employment with Children's Division, she worked as an investigator, alternative care worker and family centered services worker. Teresa ended her last six years of social work as the Foster/Adopt Licensing Caseworker for Miller, Morgan and Moniteau Counties, retiring in December 2010. Teresa is pianist for the Westminster Presbyterian Church, and enjoys cooking, crocheting and making quilts. Today, Tommy and Teresa, labor with love, on their nine-acre Chestnut Orchard, raising chickens, fishing, gardening and traveling. They also enjoy the joy, liveliness and energy their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren bring to their lives.
