About the Book

The salty city Predator is a novel based on the lives of people living in a coastal city. The book shows all the aspects of life in the city. The book touches on several aspects of life in the city from religion, politics and business aspects. The book also touches on aspects of love, teenage talents and street life. The history of the city is well illustrated in the eleven chapters of this book with sometimes a comical or an ironical touch.
The author also challenges the societal norm of jailing and sentencing minor offenders who later go to prison with mare certificates of stealing to feed only to graduate with degrees in robbery at the end of their sentences. Instead of the correctional facilities being a place to reform they are portrayed as dens of turning a petty thief into a trained robber. The book challenges the expensive education that the society has perceived as the key to bail them and their families from poverty. The people in the city give it all to educate their children only to end up as jobless graduates on the streets. The corruption and nepotism in the job market in the city becomes the only true key. The judiciary is illustrated through the eyes of a remanded suspect who has spent years in the courts. He portrays his experience in the courts is not that of a holy altar of justice but a grave yard full of morticians and vultures.
The city has many legends starting from Joe the great soccer player to the magical musician, the mermaid queen of the sea. Their lives are clearly outlined in the book. Their struggles some are picked up after being dumped in garbage pits, others are taken off the streets and the burning talents within them leads them to greatness only to be poached by foreign countries. One major example is a street thief who snatches a handbag from a pregnant woman on the street and runs for it. Her husband a former marathon champion and current coach of the navy academy goes after him. They race for hours the coach is amazed by the thief's agility and resilience and after catching him he enrolls him to the military academy and a track champion and Olympic record breaker is born. This is how many of these talented legends were discovered. The book also tells of how a homeless dirty woman in rags delivers a newborn in the streets at the glare of the whole city and unfortunately dies at child birth. The kid will later grow to be a legend of the salty city. Many other great legends are picked from the streets just because of their talents they evade the salty taste of the predatory city. One of the most celebrated record breaking Marathoners was a snatch and run pickpocket. He steals from a pregnant woman and runs the husband who is a military track racing coach witnesses the whole incidence and runs after him for hours. He is amazed by the resilience of this young man he jumps and evades corners without losing speed. Instead of arresting him he invites him to the training camp and molds him into a legend. The city has more legends as Illustrated in the book.
The city is divided between the socially exclude and the affluent. Depending on the social strata some live in the slums while others live in the expensive leafy suburbs. The poorly paid municipal officers leaving in these slums prey on their fellow neighbors who are retail hawkers in the busy city trying to hunt for a better life in the city. The interaction of the two is a cat and mouse game, where once caught it becomes another tragedy that is ordered by that rich mall owner. This book has clearly outlined the society as a man eat man society. The book upholds the moral fiber in the society with a comical and ironical twist to religion and politics. The book has no age restrictions and can be read by anyone no matter the age, gender or religion. The book advocates for hope as we can see how our main character finally ends up in the hands of his biological father after a life as a hopeless and homeless street urchin..
