Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2012 im Fachbereich Literaturwissenschaft - Moderne Literatur, Note: 1,0, Universität Bielefeld (Linguistik und Literaturwissenschaft), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Anschließend an die rezeptionsästhetischen Überlegungen von Hans Robert Jauß zeigt die vorliegende Untersuchung, wie The Catcher in the Rye in verschiedenen historischen Kontexten rezipiert wurde. Zentral ist dabei die These, dass der Mord an John Lennon eine Veränderung im Erfahrungshorizont der Öffentlichkeit hergestellt hat. Dies wiederum führte zu einem bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt nicht präsenten Rezeptionsstrang, der letztendlich zu einer Art Mythenbildung geführt hat. In einem ersten Schritt werden die verschiedenen Rezeptionshaltungen aufgezeigt, die sich in der Zeit vor 1980 etabliert haben. Dazu werden in der Hauptsache zeitgenössische Buchkritiken und andere Quellen der öffentlichen Meinungsäußerung herangezogen. Hinzu kommen literarische Werke, die intertextuell Bezug auf The Catcher in the Rye nehmen. Ziel ist es, aufzuzeigen, welche Aspekte des Romans von den Rezipienten als besonders relevant empfunden wurden und wie sich Schwerpunktsetzungen in der Rezeption durch historische Bedingungen gewandelt haben. Anschließend wird gezeigt, inwiefern das Attentat auf John Lennon einen neuen Erfahrungshorizont für die Rezeption von The Catcher in the Rye erzeugt hat. Daraufhin wird untersucht, welche neuen Rezeptionsstränge sich in der Folge der Ereignisse etabliert haben. Dazu werden wiederum Zeitschriftenartikel und weitere Kommentare zur Untersuchung herangezogen, allerdings wird hierbei die Entwicklung intertextueller Bezüge insbesondere in den Medien Film und Fernsehen relevant sein. Die Untersuchung wird zeigen, dass sich die produktive Rezeption zunehmend von den Inhalten des Romans entfernt und zu dessen Symbolwerdung beiträgt. Dass und wie sich dieses Phänomen des Bedeutungswandels bis heute fortsetzt, soll anschließend eine Untersuchung der derzeitigen Diskussionsk
