Así, vemos que el amor, ni la felicidad tampoco se compran con dinero. Entre los creadores Abraham es insuperable. Abran muchos como Abraham, pero como Abraham no habrán. Igualmente, MANUEL MORA SERRANO, en un artículo publicado por su columna REVELACIONES de periódico HOY.COM.DO, escribió lo siguiente: Pero Abraham Méndez Vargas ha ido afinando un estilo propio y una manera muy sureña de contar las cosas, con algunas muletillas como ¿no?, y en este manojo de 6 cuentos se desborda recreando las cosas que escuchó de niño en su casa y en los campos aledaños, llevando a veces el asunto a la ciudad capital donde en sus barrios conviven los llamados "marginales", es decir, hijos de analfabetas de los lugares más dispares y analfabetas ellos, que mantienen vivas las tradiciones orales, siendo los guardianes de estos tesoros folklóricos hasta que llega alguien como èl y los lleva a la página para que no mueran tragados por la modernidad que sustituye lo maravilloso de la tecnología y la cibernética. El título que lleva el libro es sintomático del fervor pueblerino, "El Santo La Gran Plena" nos habla de ese curandero mágico que llevado por la envidia es capaz de cometer el crimen más horrendo y poner a su propia sangre a servirle de cómplice. Otro cuento con título significativo es "Cómo tumbar una bruja", sin embargo, aunque la magia no deja de impregnar los demás, el autor recrea hechos contemporáneos, como el cuento que cierra el libro "El punto aparte", el drama del Sida y la paradoja del hijo malo que cuando cambia, desaparece. Otros títulos son "Los Angelitos de Papel", "Una mujer agradecida" y "Un grito desde el cielo" donde cuenta lo que le sucedió a una comadre de Trujillo. Estos cuentos de "La Ciudad del Sueño" como el autor llama su Neiba natal, tienen el sabor propio del sur remoto y forman parte de esa colección, que el sanjuanero Edgar Valenzuela (tenía que ser de Maguana ¿no?) está recolectando y dando a luz en Editores Brujos. Son jóvenes aun y aman su tierra y sus gentes. Especialmente el autor que comentamos utiliza expresiones propias de la región que en vez de empobrecer, enriquecen el texto por su novedad. Aunque escritores de la talla de Freddy Prestol Castillo, de quien se dice que llevaba un amanuense para que recogiera el habla popular en los labios de los que le contaban cosas de "Pablo Mamá", que Ramón Lacay Polanco en sus "Cuentos del Sur" trató de imitar y que Hernández Acosta recreó en "Otra Vez la Noche" y en su "Carnavà", Abraham Méndez Vargas va un poco más allá en el rescate de esas voces sureñas, y al par que el despliegue de poesía que enchumba sus textos, nos deja fragantes regalos de la tierra en medio de las bayahondas y los cactus que en palabras del suelo hablan de la aspereza y la reciedumbre de esos luminosos rincones del paìs.
