Elle était juive.Quand Vladislav est venu me voir cet après-midi j'en ai pleuré.Alors j'écris ce soir, j'écris pour toi lecteur qui deviens seul témoin de mon passé.Ce roman raconte l'histoire émouvante d'une jeune femme qui se sent perdue dans le monde où elle vit et qui aura bien du mal à faire la lumière sur sa situation que certains d'entre vous, lecteurs connaissent probablement.Réjane est touchante et les personnages attachants.Début du chapitre IChapitre IIl est vingt et une heures. Mon magasin est fermé depuis une heure, j'ai baissé le rideau de fer, les lumières sont allumées. Je n'ai pas faim, la nouvelle que je viens d'apprendre m'a bouleversé. Pour alléger ma peine ou exprimer mon ressentiment, je me sens porté ce soir par une envie d'écrire. Je dois coucher sur le papier ce que ces dernières années m'ont apporté, il le faut pour la paix de mon esprit.C'est le jour de mes trente ans que tout a commencé en fait. Ça date. C'était en mille neuf cent quatre-vingt-dix. Je faisais encore des petits boulots pour vivre, mais j'étais toujours chez mes parents, pour éviter les dépenses trop onéreuses. Eux, ils étaient ravis que je reste à leurs côtés bien qu'ils eussent préféré me voir entouré d'une femme et d'enfants aimants.Le fait que je passais une partie seulement de mon existence à travailler me laissait bien des moments pour lire et apprendre, car mon esprit s'est toujours nourri des bienfaits des textes. Je dévorais les livres et mangeais peu à l'époque. Ma passion se portait sur tout ou presque, mais j'avais un penchant particulier pour l'Asie, à cause du mystère dont je me plaisais à l'entourer. Les parfums, les femmes agréablement bridées, qui paraissaient si fragiles pour moi formaient dans mon imagination le rêve d'un pays idéal, comme une utopie de Thomas More, un monde parfait.Ce monde me semblait si parfait que je ne parlais que de lui, au point que mes parents m'ont fait cadeau de ce voyage pour Katmandou qui changera définitivement le cours de ma vie.Ils avaient dû épargner pendant de longues années pour me l'offrir, ce passe vers le monde idéal. Mes parents n'étaient pas fortunés, mon père était un ancien chaudronnier et ma mère s'était cassé le dos toute sa vie à entretenir la maison des autres. Au moment de fêter mes trente années sur cette terre, ils étaient tous les deux retraités et contents d'avoir épargné suffisamment pour m'offrir le voyage aller-retour, accompagné d'un petit pécule, qui me permettra de vivre sur place les dix jours que devait durer mon périple. Je ne les remercierai jamais assez, car c'est grâce à eux que ma vie en fut transformée.La leur aussi d'ailleurs, ils ne me revirent jamais...
