ROMEO AND JULIET SUMMARY

  1. An age-old vendetta between two powerful families erupts into bloodshed. A group of masked Montagues risk further conflict by gatecrashing a Capulet party. A young lovesick Romeo Montague falls instantly in love with Juliet Capulet, who is due to marry her father's choice, the County Paris. With the help of Juliet's nurse, the women arrange for the couple to marry the next day, but Romeo's attempt to halt a street fight leads to the death of Juliet's own cousin, Tybalt, for which Romeo is banished.
  2. In a desperate attempt to be reunited with Romeo, Juliet follows the Friar's plot and fakes her own death. The message fails to reach Romeo, and believing Juliet dead, he takes his life in her tomb. Juliet wakes to find Romeo's corpse beside her and kills herself.
Characters

Ruling house of Verona

  1. Prince Escalus is the ruling Prince of Verona.
  2. Count Paris is a kinsman of Escalus who wishes to marry Juliet.
  3. Mercutio is another kinsman of Escalus, a friend of Romeo.

House of Capulet

  1. Capulet is the patriarch of the house of Capulet.
  2. Lady Capulet is the matriarch of the house of Capulet.
  3. Juliet Capulet is the 13-year-old daughter of Capulet, the play's female protagonist.
  4. Tybalt is a cousin of Juliet, the nephew of Lady Capulet.
  5. The Nurse is Juliet's personal attendant and confidante.
  6. Rosaline is Lord Capulet's niece, Romeo's love in the beginning of the story.
  7. Peter, servant of the Capulet household.

House of Montague

  1. Montague is the patriarch of the house of Montague.
  2. Lady Montague is the matriarch of the house of Montague.
  3. Romeo Montague, the son of Montague, is the play's male protagonist.
  4. Benvolio is Romeo's cousin and best friend.
  5. Abram and Balthasar, servants of the Montague
  • In the street of Verona, Sampson and Gregory, servents of Capulets, and Abraham and Balthasar, servents of Montagues attack each other with swords. Nephew of Montague and friend of Romeo's Benvolio trying to separate them with his sword, Lady Capulet's niece Tybalt sees this and thinks that Benvolio is attacking the servents.
  • When Tybalt draws a sword to Benvolio, the people gather, cursing Capuletas and Montagues. Capulet and Lady Capulet hear the noise while Montague and Lady Montague come to the field. Prince Escalus intervenes and once again a fight between the two families, and if the streets of Verona break down, they declare that they will pay the price for their lives.
  • Just when Lady Montague was going to be happy that her son Romeo is not in this fight, then she sees him. Romeo is in deep sorrow because of his love for Rosaline. Benvolio is trying to make Romeo fall out of love from Rosaline.
