Samantha Wills, known to her friends as Sam, is a beautiful young African-American woman who's just moved to New York City to pursue a career in acting, but she feels beaten down by the grind, as she's had little success, and she's almost broke. Unable to pay her rent, her roommate relegates her to the couch. One day, she answers a mysterious ad in the paper about the need for a "caretaker". It turns out, the ad was placed by Alex Gregory, a billionaire real estate mogul and young playboy who has removed himself from the public recently due to a mysterious illness. Sam leaves her modest means and goes to live with Alex, where they develop a strong friendship. When the nature of Alex's "illness" is revealed to Sam, she's taken aback--but then, subsequently, pulled in. Will Sam and Alex find love in Gotham City? ---------------------------------------------------------- EXCERPT FROM BOOK "Mr. G....you're....you're...you're...!" Awestruck, she couldn't even bring herself to say his name. She'd seen his face in the papers-the city's foremost real estate mogul, self-made, and only 32 years old. Lately, it had been rumored he'd gone off the deep end. "Please," the man said, smiling, "Call me Alex. And what is your name, beautiful? Your voice betrayed you as being gorgeous, but I could not have prepared for this." He glanced over Sam, and Sam felt a shiver come over her. She could tell in the newspaper pictures how handsome Alex was, but the pictures paled in comparison to the strong, handsome man who stood in front of her now. Further, his presence was so unexpected that she thought she might be having one of those romantic fantasy dreams she had from time to time. "I'm...uh...my name is Samantha Wills...but most people call me Sam." Alex nodded. "I prefer Samantha, if that's quite all right with you." Sam nodded. "An elegant name," he continued. "It suits you." "You have a beautiful home," Sam blurted out, her nerves getting the best of her. Alex laughed. "Thank you, Samantha. Well, it's probably best I give you the grand tour. Oh, and show you where you're staying." Sam looked at Alex, slightly confused. "You mean, you aren't going to interview me or anything?" "It feels like a fit," Alex said. "I use my intuition to guide me on all things, from investments to people. And this feels right. Wouldn't you agree?" Sam paused, and then nodded slowly, a grin spreading across her face before she could stop it. She sensed her life was about to change. "Great," Alex said, returning her grin with one of his own. "Then let's begin, shall we?" Alex took Sam all around the penthouse, showing her everything from his bedroom to the library to her own immaculately furnished quarters. Her four-post bed was made from solid cherry and had a gorgeous white canopy atop it. Her bathroom had two sinks, and her shower had six showerheads. This type of luxury was foreign to Sam, and she took it all in with a sense of childlike wonder. After he had explained various items of the house, Alex began to speak frankly to Sam. "I'm guessing you're wondering what your job duties are going to be here." Sam nodded-she'd been afraid to ask; was afraid any wrong word might make this dream disappear, and she'd once more wake up on the couch with popcorn in her hair. "Well basically," Alex said, continuing, "I've had some...health issues...that I've been dealing with recently, so I'm home quite a bit more than I used to be. I just need someone who can accomplish some day-to-day chores for me. You know-do laundry, cook me breakfast every now and again, tidy up, and...oh, I don't know...
