August 1975 in London Welt- und über einen Monat später US- Premiere feierte. Heute ist der Film wohl derjenige, der am häufigsten in Kinos auf der ganzen Welt zu sehen ist. In dieser Hausarbeit soll vor allem der Aspekt, inwieweit das Publikum mit einem Film interagieren kann, untersucht werden und wie es dazu kam, dass ein zunächst erfolgloser Musicalfilm zu einem Kultfilm mutierte, der eine riesige Fangemeinde um sich schart, die der "Rocky Horror Picture Show" auch mehr als 35 Jahre nach ihrem Entstehen zu ungebrochenem Erfolg verhilft. Der Erfolg in Los Angeles, so stellte sich heraus, gründete darauf, dass die meisten der Besucher tatsächlich jeden Abend erneut ins Kino kamen, um sich den Film anzusehen. Tim Deegan, Vorsitzender der Werbeabteilung bei Twentieth Century Fox, änderte daraufhin seine Strategie und begann, den Film in vielen Kinos spätabends oder nachts zu zeigen, sodass die Zuschauer sich unbeeinflusst von Werbung ihr eigenes Bild machen, den Film für sich selbst entdecken konnten.
