In diesem zwei Bände umfassenden historischen Überblick beleuchtet der Soziologe Johannes Kohaupt die zur Durchschnittsgesellschaft oft magisch-mysteriös wirkenden rockmusikbegleiteten Gegenkulturen seit den 1950er Jahren. Der hier vorgelegte zweite Band öffnet den Blick auf die Gothic-Kultur, taucht in Hip-Hop- und Technowelten ein, vergleicht europäischen Oi-Punk mit Hardcore-Punk aus Washington, beleuchtet die Straight-Edge-Bewegung, und diverse Emocore- und Emo-Kultur-Varianten. Der erste Band beschrieb Gegenkulturen der 1950er bis 1970er Jahre: die Greaser und Teddyboys, die Mods, Hippies und Skinheads und nicht zuletzt die Punks. Darüber hinaus gab er einen Einblick in die politisch motivierten schwarzen amerikanischen Gegenbewegungen ab den 1950er Jahren: das Civil Rights Movement und das Black Power Movement. Im Spannungsfeld zwischen Authentizität und Massenkultur wirken Gegenkulturen exotisch, spiegeln im Grunde aber lediglich die Widersprüche der eigenen sozialen und kulturellen Umgebung. Dabei dienen Accessoires wie Schmuck, aber auch Kleidung oder Frisuren, genauer: der gesamte Habitus und die Haltung gegenkultureller Bewegungen als Identitäts- und zugleich als Abgrenzungssymbole. Rockmusik avanciert zu ihrem Sprachrohr und entfaltet in der Entwicklung jeweils neuer Stilrichtungen eine mitreißende Dynamik. Die Geschichte der Rockmusik zeigt sich letztlich als Schlaglicht auf die Geschichte der ökonomischen, politischen, sozialen und kulturellen Verhältnisse der USA und Europas seit den 1950er Jahren. In der vorliegenden zweibändigen Untersuchung wird die Normativität des gängigen bürgerlichen Ästhetik- und des Kulturbegriffs auf deren Wirkungsradius in bürgerlichen Millieus zurückverwiesen. Der Untersuchung wird ein empirischer Kulturbegriff zugrundegelegt, der es erlaubt, kulturelle Erscheinungen gleichberechtigt neben bürgerliche Kulturerscheinungen zu stellen, Rockmusik qualitativ gleichwertig neben europäische Bildungsmusik.
About the Author: Johannes Kohaupt, Jahrgang 1953, lebt und arbeitet der Autor in der Nähe von Frankfurt am Main. Er ist diplomierter Soziologe mit den Schwerpunkten Jugendkultur und Medien. Als solcher war er für diverse öffentliche und private Institutionen, u.a. für die Landesbildstelle Hessen und in der Lehrerfortbildung tätig und lehrte an der Fachhochschule Darmstadt Medienkunde. Als Lehrer an verschiedenen öffentlichen Schulen und Dozent bei privaten Bildungsträgern unterrichtet er allgemeinbildende und berufskundliche Fächer. Johannes Kohaupt ist Autor diverser Schulfunksendungen für den Hessischen Rundfunk, schrieb Drehbücher für Bildungsmedien, veröffentlichte medienpädagogische Beiträge in Schulbüchern und Fachzeitschriften und fungierte als Redakteur der medienpädagogischen Zeitschrift Audiovisuell.
