About the Book

Riot in Ubahu Is a fiction set in the south-eastern part of Nigeria during the military regime. Federal Government College, Ubahu is among the nation's Federal Government Colleges. A notorious group known as 'Billionaires Boys Club' (BBC) is made up of students from very wealthy homes. They bully and extort money from students at will. This attitude infuriates the Principal who at various times have either expelled or suspended them. Most times, their parents contact the educational authorities and the Principal is pressurised to rescind his decision. The BBC members planned to burn the house of the Principal, but some junior students got wind of the plot and informed the Principal. With the assistance of the police, the members were arrested when they wanted to set the Principal's house ablaze. They were handed over to the police and the Principal threatened to sue the students. Pleas came from some powerful personalities for the Principal not to carry out his plans. He turned a deaf ear to their pleas. He went ahead and charged the students to court. This action infuriated the Minister who transferred the Principal to a new school. He faced hardship when he got to the new school, with lack of adequate funding and infrastructure in place. The new Principal replacing him banned corporal punishment and grass cutting in the school. Students were happy about the reforms and they hailed the Principal. The Principal started poorly; he lived a life of debauchery with loose male and female teachers. The moral fabric in the school deteriorated so much. The standard of living of the students reduced drastically, which resulted to a violent riot by them. The students were sent home, and later came back after three months, when the damaged properties were replaced by the government. The Principal was removed when he impregnated one of the female student who is a niece to the president. The former Principal, Chief Obanma Orizu is transferred back to FGC Ubahu amidst pomp and pageantry. More: If you are a reader who loves suspense and drama, this is your sure bet.
