About the Book

Looking for Christ-centered culturally relevant preaching and teaching material for Cowboy and Country Churches? Riding the Range with Jesus is a collection of twelve sermons relevant to the needs of the cowboy and country pastor and their congregations. Born and raised south of Amarillo, Texas, Pastor Mel Hooten is well acquainted with the cowboy and western culture. After having devoted over 40 years to serving as pastor in traditional churches, in 2008 he retired and returned to his cowboy and western heritage roots and started the Cowboy Church of Tarrant County near Fort Worth, Texas. Riding the Range with Jesus is a collection of sermons prepared by Pastor Hooten and preached at Cowboy Church of Tarrant County. These hand-picked sermons will offer practical help, guidance and inspiration for the cowboy and country preacher and teacher. Each is based upon Scripture, prepared in prayer, guided by the Holy Spirit of God and offered to provide practical applications for our everyday walk with Jesus. In these twelve lessons, you will find western/cowboy and country themes, stories and illustrations. These sermons may be used in whole or in part. They are simple and yet contain profound truths dug deep within the gold mine of Scripture. As you study through these messages you will cross rivers with wagon trains going west and with drovers pushing cattle northward to market. You will find a way out of a box canyon and encounter the close friendship of Jesus as you ride the trail with Him. Titles and topics in Riding the Range with Jesus include: -Eight Second Ride -Crossing Rivers -Getting Rid of the Prickly Pears -Open Door way in a Box Canyon -Riding for the Prize -Riding the River with Jesus -Roundup by the Sea -The Father's Brand -The Last Roundup -The Pick-up Man -What About the Strays? -When Life Bucks You Off You can order Riding the Range with Jesus by clicking the Buy Now button.
About the Author: About mel hooten Pastor Mel Hooten has 45 years' experience in Christian ministry. Since retiring from serving as a traditional church pastor in 2008, God has led him back to his roots to carry the gospel of Jesus Christ into the world of ranchers, rodeo riders, cowboys and cowgirls who often do not feel comfortable in traditional church. Folks who love western heritage, county music, working with livestock, or cowboys at heart who prefer a simple down-to-earth approach to life; these are those to whom Mel seeks out. Pastor Mel has served as a church planter for the Western Heritage division of Texas Baptists to start the Cowboy Church of Tarrant County near Fort Worth, Texas. Currently Mel wants to continue to bring good news to those who seek the truth and make available his Bible messages, devotionals, and lessons for those who preach and teach. Mel brings a simple gospel message with a western flair. In addition, God uses him to teach practical ways to ride the range with Jesus every day. The trails of life will bring us to rivers that must be crossed and steep hills we can't climb alone. With Jesus, we can weather the storms and ride through the valleys. He will give guidance and provisions when we get bucked off. Indeed, there is a trail that leads home. Mel's mission is to help every person he encounters to find it. Mel and his wife, Karen, currently live in Aubrey, Texas. They like to travel in their RV and enjoy the great outdoors with their grandchildren. They are available for ministry wherever God leads them.
