About the Book

A unique collection of true to life stories - masterfully told in rhyme. Although there is nothing new under the sun you will find these poems poignant, refreshing, and relevant. Not only will you be entertained, but you will be challenged by the unique and stimulating, push and pull rhythm of many of these poems. Presented in a straight forward and honest manner, these stories expose raw humanity with all its warts and flaws. You will travel through some of the most profound emotions of our fragile humanity - love, joy, sorrow, peace, hurt, anger, frustration, confusion, sadness, and most importantly hope. You will hear echoes of the struggle between light and dark; as the author exposes the vivid contrasts between the purity of God's commands and the violence that mankind has done against God and His laws. These poems flow from a mature heart that has experienced much of the ups and downs that life has to offer and walked away stronger, wiser, and thankful for the lessons learned. Many of the poems deal with the everyday and often news worthy human condition, as such you will certainly be able to relate many of the situations to your own life, past, or present. You will laugh, cry, and perhaps wonder why. You might find yourself saying, "Been there, done that." You may even say, "Boy, I wish I had done that." You may see things in a way you never have before; finding new wisdom. You will be impacted and perhaps walk away feeling consoled and even counseled. You may even rush to the Word of God to find confirmation that these precepts are true. The author is cognizant that the Lord is always looking over her shoulder. She seeks to please Him - her most important critic. She does not hide her source of inspiration; in fact, she hopes that you too may find it beneficial to immerse yourself in the unfathomable riches of God's love and advice; bound within the pages of The Holy Bible. With a new and refreshing style of poetry with a purpose; this nonfiction book is a must have for your library. Although, Karen only arrived onto the writing scene this spring, she has already written her fourth book and is gaining a fan base for her poetry. I have enjoyed reading Karen's writings and hope to be involved in publishing many more of hers in the future. Karen often says, "Our lifestyle echoes our beliefs," and her rhymes illustrate this truth beautifully. I find her poems to be poignant, relevant, entertaining, wise, profound, and thought provoking. I am convinced that you will enjoy this and her other books; finding your emotions stirred as you read about both age old and contemporary situations you can relate to and even learn from. - K. Compton, Editor in Chief, Heartspeak Publications Incorporated.
About the Author: About the Author Karen Chism resides in Michigan with the love of her life - Jim, her husband of many decades, and their adorable Yorkie, Duchess. After illness forced their retirement and derailed their plans to live out their days in their beloved Branson, MO., their lifestyle was drastically changed. Due to declining health, the simple act of voicing her thoughts or communicating with her husband became very frustrating. With many hours to reflect upon their new circumstances, Karen found one theme recurring in her mind; (Black and White and Shades of Gray; whatever happened to yesterday?) She found herself inexplicably thinking thoughts, subjects, or having conversations in rhymes. Karen began to randomly record her rhyming thoughts to share with loved ones; thus her writing career began. Once her writing started, it was hard to stop, it became a sort of compulsion; forcing her to try and keep up - quickly putting pen to paper to catch her rhymes as they flowed freely from her mind. Soon, she had enough material to publish a three part series of books titled, "Reflections in My Twilight Years." Karen spends most of her days reading and writing; however, these last few years have not been all fun and games; indeed they have brought generational grief of unspeakable proportion, but . . . that is the subject of her soon to be released memoir. Karen seeks to write in a style where you will be able to understand what she is trying to say, just as if in casual conversation. To borrow a phrase from the Bible; except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? Karen enjoys her daily Bible study and her poetry is greatly influenced by God's exhaustive wisdom contained therein. She finds material for the next poem everywhere - just as God is.
