Weder ein amtierender Präsident noch Vizepräsident stehen zur Wahl. Bei den Demokraten entscheidet sich die Kandidatur zum ersten Mal in der Geschichte der USA zwischen einem dunkelhäutigen Mann und einer Frau. Hinzu kommt die fortschreitende Medialisierung des Wahlkampfes. Alle Reden der Kandidaten sind im Internet verfügbar und finden so ein weites Publikum. Durch gute Rhetorik eine große Anzahl an Menschen zu erreichen und zu beeinflussen ist also besser möglich als in früheren Zeiten. Dem Demokraten Barack Obama wird eben dies von seinen politischen Gegnern vorgeworfen. Der als rhetorisch versiert geltende Politiker wird als "all rhetoric, no substance" (Hayes 2008) bezeichnet. Die rhetorischen Fähigkeiten von Barack Obama und die damit einhergehende Einflussnahme auf das Publikum wird in dieser Hausarbeit anhand der als "Yes, we can"-Rede bekannt gewordenen Rede, die er nach der Vorwahl am 08. Januar 2008 im US Bundesstaat New Hampshire gehalten hat, analysiert. Als Quellen dienen dabei das auf der Homepage von Barack Obama (www.barackobama.com) veröffentlichte Video und das Transkript der Rede in der New York Times vom 08. Januar 2008. Die Analyse der Rede erfolgt in zwei Teilen, der Beschreibung der kommunikativen Situation und der Untersuchung der Rede anhand des Redeskripts und des Videos . Teil 1 befasst sich mit der Vorstellung des Redners, Barack Obama, der historischen Situation und dem konkreten Anlass der Rede, sowie den Adressaten, an welche sie gerichtet ist. In Teil 2 wird der Text hinsichtlich Art, Aufbau, Inhalt und jeweils verwendeter Stilmittel untersucht und das Vide
