Marie-Therese CAM. - Le lexique d'Apsyrtos, source de Vegece (mulom. 3, 13, 4) (p. 7-26)Une recette fortifiante, appelee poudre du quadrige, destinee aux chevaux extenues par une course effrenee, est transmise par Vegece seul (mulom. 3, 13, 4), qui l'attribue a l'hippiatre grec Apsyrtos, du traite duquel il avait une version latine. Plusieurs denominations d'ingredients posent des difficultes textuelles et d'interpretation. La restauration du texte fait apparaitre trois hapax translitteres du grec, cassiam asmalitem (cannelle qui fait passer l'asthme ), herbam d(e)rosinam ( herbe a la rosee, betoine), gessemanticam (terre sigillee), et un hapax latin, albimannam (oliban, encens blanc), d'autant plus inattendus qu'ils ont des equivalents latins et grecs usuels?: on attendait ad suspirium, betonica, Lemnia ou sphragis, manna turis. Pour les justifier, nous avancons l'hypothese que la recette a subi deux traductions du iie siecle au ive siecle, passant du latin (langue originelle) au grec (traduction d'Apsyrtos), puis du grec au latin (par le fait du traducteur anonyme), etat dans lequel Vegece la recoit, avant qu'elle soit revisee puis retraduite en grec par un erudit byzantin du ve siecle.Morgane CARIOU. - Le topos de l'ineffable dans les catalogues poetiques (p. 27-58) La presente contribution s'interesse aux formes, origines et fonctions, dans les catalogues de la poesie epique et didactique d'epoque imperiale, d'une preterition en vertu de laquelle le poete confesse ne pas pouvoir venir a bout de la matiere qu'il s'apprete pourtant a enumerer. Apres avoir etudie l'usage de cette remarque preliminaire dans la poesie archaique et son opposition a la posture choisie par Nicandre, cet article examine son devenir et ses mutations dans la poesie augusteenne puis dans la poesie grecque d'epoque antonine. Ce faisant, il entend montrer que le recours a ce topos dans l'introduction d'un catalogue peut etre compris a la lumiere des theories antiques de l'exorde?: le poete, en affichant son honnetete et sa modestie, cherche a susciter attention et bienveillance tout en faisant l'eloge de son sujet. L'etude de ce procede permet donc d'aborder par un biais precis la question de la rhetorisation de la poesie imperiale.Marie-Therese CAM. - The lexicon of Apsyrtus, Vegetius' source (mulom. 3, 13, 4) (p. 7-26)Only Vegetius (mulom. 3, 13, 4) transmits a recipe called 'A Race-horse Powder', whose invention he attributes to the Greek veterinary writer Apsyrtus, which proves that he had access to a Latin translation. The composition is supposed to strengthen worn out race-horses after the strain of a race. The recipe has some ingredients that can not be found in other sources and whose names have probably been corrupted. My corrections result in three new words, transliterated from the Greek and not attested elsewhere, cassiam asmalitem (cinnamon 'for the relieve of asthma'), herbam d(e)rosinam ('dewy plant', i.e. betony), gessemanticam (terra sigillata), and one Latin term, albimannam (olibanum, frankincense). It is surprising to be faced with these terms since Greek and Latin had several other and much more common words to designate the same plants, i.e. ad suspirium, betonica, Lemnia or sphragis, manna turis. In tal modo, si intende dimostrare che l'uso del topos dell'ineffabilita nell'introduzione di un catalogo si comprende meglio alla luce delle teorie anti che sull'esordio?: dichiarazioni di modestia e di onesta da parte del poeta tradiscono la volonta di ottenere l'attenzione e la benevolenza del pubblico. Lo studio di questo procedimento permette cosi di considerare, a partire da un caso specifico, l'importanza della retorica nella poesia di eta imperiale.Alessandra COPPOLA. - L'Apoteosi di Arsinoe di Callimaco?: una regina e i suoi modelli (p. 59-64)L'articolo indica alcuni riferimenti poetici nell'Apoteosi di Arsinoe che sembrano ricollegare la figura della regina a modelli femminili paradigmatici a indicazione di virtu private e pubbliche.Alessandra COPPOLA. - The Apotheosis of Arsinoe by Callimachus?: a queen and her models (p. 59-64)This paper focuses on some poetical references in the Apotheosis of Arsinoe which might compare the queen with ideal models for private and public virtues.Eric DIEU. - L'etymologie du verbe latin subo (p. 65-89)Le verbe latin subo etre en chaleur, etre en rut (anciennement en parlant d'animaux femelles) n'a pas d'etymologie sure. Cet article propose un rattachement de ce verbe a la racine indo-europeenne *k(u)?seub?h-, qui denotait l'idee d'agitation, de secousse, de tremblement, de balancement (cf. sanskrit k?ubh- etre agite, etre secoue, trembler, etre en mouvement, polonais chybac balancer, agiter, etc.). Ce verbe latin aurait connu une restriction de ses emplois au domaine sexuel en parlant d'abord d'animaux en rut, puis, secondairement, de femmes en chaleur, et meme d'etres humains en general, voire de divinites. La conservation de ce verbe en latin serait alors un archaisme de la langue technique des eleveurs.Eric DIEU. - Zur Etymologie von lateinisch subo (p. 65-89) Fur das lateinische Verb subo "in der Brunst sein" (ursprunglich von weiblichen Tieren) hat sich noch keine sichere Etymologie gefunden. Im vorliegenden Aufsatz wird vorgeschlagen, dass dieses Verb von der indogermanischen Wurzel *k(u)?seub?h- "ins Schwanken geraten" zuruckgeht (vgl. ai. k?ubh- "schwanken, in Schwankung geraten, zittern, in Bewegung geraten", poln. chybac "schaukeln, hin- und herbewegen", usw.). Im Latein wurde die Bedeutung dieser indogermanischen Wurzel auf den sexuellen Bereich beschrankt (ursprunglich von brunstigen Tieren und dann von Frauen, ja sogar Mannern und Gottern). Even though it is an excellent edition - certainly of the same level as Wallies' editions of Aristotle's Topics and Sophistical Refutations, and of Alexander's commentary on Aristotle's Topics -, there are passages where Wallies' solutions do not seem convincing. In this article we analyse two passages of this kind?: in An. Pr. 60.21-25, where Alexander discusses the categorical syllogism Darii, and in An. Pr. 129.33-130.13, where the commentator focuses on the problem of the validity of the syllogistic formula Barbara LX-L.Carlo M. LUCARINI. - Gli Anapesti di Plauto e di Seneca (p. 111-135) I Marschanapaste del dramma greco furono divisi in dimetri dai filologi alessandrini. Questa divisione (che riflette una tendenza sintattica) influenzo profondamente i drammaturghi romani. LUCARINI. - The Anapests of Plautus and Seneca (p. 111-135)Greek Marschanapaste were first divided into dimeters by Alexandrian philologists. This division (that reflects a syntactical tendency) influenced Roman dramatists deeply. Plautus composed real anapaestic dimeters sometimes ordering them as a ?at? st series, sometimes (and more frequently) coupling them as septenarii or octonarii, but he did not compose ?at? s?st?a series (as scholars generally suppose) and most of these series are more conveniently interpreted as octonarii mixed with septenarii. Seneca's anapaests should still be interpreted as dimeters mixed with monometers (the dimeters are marked off by hiatus and indifferens, while sinaphia strangely enough operates only within a monometer).Christine MAUDUIT. - Quel oeil pour OEdipe Note de critique textuelle et d'interpretation (Sophocle, OEdipe a Colone, v. 866) (p. 137-150)L'article reexamine la construction et le sens du vers 866 d'OEdipe a Colone et propose, sur la base de considerations philologiques, syntaxiques et semantiques, de faire porter l'adjectif non sur ?a, selon l'interpretation traditionnelle ( mon oeil sans defense, designation metaphorique d'Antigone), mais sur e, dans une construction proleptique. L'adjectif, qui exprime un etat de nudite resultant d'une privation, servirait en ce cas la representation de l'etat de denuement absolu dans lequel se retrouve OEdipe, prive de sa fille Antigone que Creon vient de lui ravir. Cette hypothese interpretative, qui donne un sens plus satisfaisant a l'adjectif que dans l'interpretation courante, cadre bien, par ailleurs, avec la teneur de la replique d'OEdipe, qui est une denonciation de la violence exercee sur lui par Creon, et dont ses filles sont l'instrument.Christine MAUDUIT. - OEdipus' eye: a critical note on the interpretation of Sophocles, OEdipus Coloneus, 866 (p. 137-150)In this paper, I question the usual interpretation of OEdipus Coloneus, 866. Considering the precise meaning of the adjective (bare, deprived of something), I propose to refer it not to ?a (designating Antigone, both in proper and metaphorical sense), as it is usually understood, but to e, in a proleptic construction. OEdipus would depict himself as, because he finds himself deprived of Antigone's presence and assistance, as a result of the violence of Creon.Andrei TIMOTIN. - Contrainte et persuasion dans la priere. Un aspect de la polemique entre Porphyre et Jamblique (p. 151-165) Dans la Lettre a Anebon, Porphyre attache une importance particuliere a la question de savoir si les prieres peuvent persuader (pe e ) les dieux et exercer une contrainte ( ) sur eux, en influencant ainsi leurs decisions. L'article met en evidence son arriere-plan platonicien et le role de Plotin dans sa fortune neoplatonicienne. Il etudie egalement la reaction critique de Jamblique a cette question, dans sa Reponse a Porphyre (De mysteriis), en examinant son fondement doctrinal, ainsi que ses affinites avec la perspective stoicienne sur la priere.Andrei TIMOTIN. - Coercion and Persuasion in Prayer. An Aspect of the Polemic between Porphyry and Iamblichus (p. 151-165) In the Letter to Anebo, Porphyry attaches particular importance to determining whether prayers can persuade (pe e ) gods and coerce ( ) on them, thus influencing their decisions. The article highlights the Platonic background of this very question and Plotinus' role in its Neoplatonic reception.
