Claire Gallien: Sur la preface d'Edward Said a la traduction anglaise de La Renaissance orientale (1984) de Raymond Schwab: De l'humanisme integral a l'humanisme democratique Le present article examine la reception de Schwab dans le domaine anglophone, d'apres la preface qu'Edward Said publie pour la traduction anglaise de La Renaissance orientale en 1984. La lecture enthousiaste que fait Said, auteur d'une critique virulente de l'orientalisme, de Schwab, apologiste de la renaissance orientaliste, parait paradoxale. Je defends l'hypothese que le rapprochement entre Said et Schwab se joue moins au niveau de l'orientalisme qu'autour de l'enjeu de l'humanisme, integral chez Schwab et democratique chez Said. Si l'on tient compte du panorama academique qui est celui de Said dans les annees 1970-1980, et de l'engagement de l'intellectuel pour la critique philologique, de la pensee de l'affiliation, et de la question de l'humanisme democratique, le rapprochement parait beaucoup moins incongru. Mon article propose une etude du lien qui unit Said a Schwab precisement au-dela de l'orientalisme.Sarga Moussa: Voyager c'est traduire. Relire le Voyage en Orient de Lamartine a la lumiere de Raymond Schwab On voudrait ici proposer l'hypothese selon laquelle le Voyage en Orient (1835) de Lamartine revele la meme fascination face a l'islam que celle decrite par Schwab dans La Renaissance orientale (1950) a propos de l'Inde. Le journal de voyage lamartinien contribue a instaurer une nouvelle relation a l'Orient, qui s'appuie sur des mediateurs dont le role est capital pour comprendre la demarche d'ouverture a l'autre de son auteur. On prend pour exemple de ces figures mediatrices le guide-interprete Mazoillier, l'agent consulaire Beaudin, enfin le portrait idealisant du Turc en pieux philosophe auquel s'identifie le narrateur dans certaines de ses descriptions de Constantinople. Guillaume Bridet: Yggdrasill (1936-1940): une revue entre cosmopolitisme, imperialisme et universalisme poetiques Les quarante-six livraisons de la revue Yggdrasill, qui paraissent entre avril 1936 et avril 1940 sous la direction entre autres de Raymond Schwab, temoignent d'une extraordinaire ouverture culturelle avec la presence de la poesie francaise, mais aussi de toute une serie de poemes venus d'ailleurs, et parfois de fort loin. La revue permet de saisir certaines des difficultes auxquelles confronte le changement d'echelle du national au mondial prone aujourd'hui par certains chercheurs. En envisageant tour a tour trois figures de la mondialite (le cosmopolitisme, l'imperialisme et l'universalisme), on envisagera certaines de ces difficultes.Chloe Chaudet: Raymond Schwab et la pensee occidentale de l'engagement: vers un renouveau transculturel de l'histoire litteraire Cet article interroge la mise en sourdine de la politique qui caracterise La Renaissance orientale ainsi que des ecrits plus litteraires de Raymond Schwab, et propose de l'interpreter comme la formulation d'un autre type d'engagement que celui qui domine la sphere europeenne et nord-americaine au milieu du XXe siecle. Reconfigurant le concept dix-neuviemiste d'intellectuel en lui conferant une portee cosmopolite novatrice, l'engagement qui caracterise l'oeuvre de Schwab peut ainsi etre concu comme premisse et premice de certaines des approches transculturelles de l'histoire litteraire qui se multiplient depuis la deuxieme partie du XXe siecle. Histoire de la souffrance (2019), presente comme le premier volet d'une trilogie en devenir, met en place un modele ultra-narratif que l'auteur associe lui-meme a un modele venu du bouddhisme ou de l'hindouisme . En se fondant systematiquement sur les hypotheses enoncees par Raymond Schwab, cet article propose une lecture d'Ames comme une resurgence de l'epopee romantique, dans laquelle l'influence orientale serait autant thematique que formelle, manifeste dans une predilection pour les romans de l'abondance et de l'innombrable .Tristan Leperlier: Pour une histoire litteraire transnationale: La litterature algerienne entre Integral et Integrisme Partant d'une reflexion critique sur La Renaissance orientale de Raymond Schwab, qui en appelle a un humanisme integral, cet article propose une methode d'histoire litteraire transnationale reintroduisant le politique, et illustree a partir du cas algerien. En particulier, a l'encontre d'une teleologie de l'integration, ou encore d'un metissage universel, cette methode permet de mettre en lumiere les tensions permanentes et dialectiques au sein d'une litterature postcoloniale entre integration a l'international, et construction parfois integriste d'une specificite nationale.Michael Ferrier: Japon: l'interlocuteur invisible . Plus profondement encore, que nous dit-elle de la construction, du developpement et des limites de l'humanisme integral
