Nada fuera de aquello que, podría o no, ocurrir en una nación tercermundista, con sus inherentes estructuras socio culturales de marginación, pobreza, desigualdad, etc. Nadie, ni el mismo Castro, pudo imaginar en aquel entonces, los alcances de tal movimiento. Lo que, visto desde su propia contemporaneidad, sería una revolúción, quizá indeleble, quizá no, constituye, gracias a incidencias coyunturales, casuales, y en determinada escala, propiciadas por sus detractores, uno de los más trascendentales episodios de la historia latinoamericana del siglo veinte, cuyo impacto rebasó los límites del continente y sus efectos pudieron, en el peor de los casos, desatar una nueva conflagración mundial.La Revolución Cubana o la Revolución Castrista, algo que medido sobre una base correlativa de fuerzas, frente a una nación poderosa como los Estados Unidos, podría ser aplastado fácilmente cual un insecto, se transformó por vez primera en las américas en una piedra en el zapato" que calza la gran república del Nuevo Mundo.Es una paradoja del resultado del enfrentamiento entre una superpotencia y un estado pequeño y tercermundista, tal como lo fue la Guerra de Vietnam. Desde los tiempos de Augusto César Sandino en Nicaragua, nadie desafiaba con éxito las acciones coercitivas procedentes del Imperio Americano. Pero lo de Sandino consistió en una resistencia temporal, y al cabo sobrepasada. Lo de los Castro no tiene remedio ni elucidación aparente. Si los ex mandatarios Eisenhower y Kennedy resucitasen, con horror, no creerían lo que estarían viendo: la Revolución Castrista en pie y consolidada a sólo noventa millas de su país. El régimen totalitario de los hermanos Castro, sembrado con raíces firmes y profundas, mirando triunfalmente a su adversario reconocer el fracaso de la política que ellos comenzaron más de cincuenta años antes.¿Que sucedió? ¿Como algo tan inexplicable pudo haber ocurrido? ¿Será acaso que Fidel Castro resultó ser un elegido de Dios, alguien destinado por voluntad explícita de este a socavar las posiciones de la potencia del Norte a guisa de castigo por el éxito alcanzado ante el mundo? ¿O es que todo se debió a que las herramientas utilizadas para combatir al castrismo fueron mal seleccionadas, o mal aplicadas?Podría pensarse incluso que los métodos en cuestión pudieron ser los correctos en el caso, empero se estrellaron contra el genio y la magnificencia intelectual del caudillo. Otra explicación tendría su razón de ser si aceptamos la palabrería del nuevo jefe del régimen (Raúl) en sentido de que el pueblo revolucionario y patriota de Cuba hizo ingentes sacrificios a fin de preservar la soberanía y la existencia de su revolución socialista. Pues si bien, los reconocidos y reales subsidios soviéticos aplicados al comercio con la isla, que al decir de muchos exiliados contribuyeron al sostenimiento de los Castro, contrarrestando el efecto del boicot estadounidense, resultaron efectivos; estos cesaron abruptamente al derrumbarse el sistema comunista europeo, y un cuarto de siglo después la Cuba que se pronosticó seguiría el camino de la U.R.S.S. en poco tiempo, desafía los augurios. Equivale a un viejo dinosaurio cuya capacidad de evolucionar deja atrás una y otra época geológica adaptándose al nuevo medio. Esta adaptación necesaria sólo tiene lugar en el orden económico. En el orden político, ni pensarlo. Nada parecido a lo que sucedió en el Oriente europeo. Allí reinaba una coyuntura económica difícil, lo mismo que en Cuba, y no sobrevivieron esos gobiernos.
